Is it just me?

Post by jkbarnes »

Does anyone else enjoy when forum members post a pic that offers a snippet of their life beyond their digital existence on the forum? I’ve got to be honest, I love seeing a photo that teases a bit of the kitchen, or maybe someone’s living room. There’s a whole thread dedicated to back yards (or is it gardens?)!

I love seeing behind the curtain, so to speak. I don’t know, I feel like it makes members more real to me. To see a bit of someone’s home, their personal space, is to see the person, I think.

Or maybe I’m just a bit of a crazy online stalker?!

I totally agree Drew. In fact I had a good peer at your kitchen in your coffee pic there just so I could see if it gave any clues away!
Of course, I also have to accept in reverse that anyone might be checking out the backgrounds to my pics! Mostly I think this happens with Neo pics, where you might catch sights of some books or a pile of guddle in the background. I share a lot about me on the forum but you don’t often get to see my house... this is because IRL it gets a good tidy before anyone visits

I really like seeing pics of people, but obviously everyone has their own thoughts about sharing those online. It’s strange having friendly interactions with people whose left wrist you know better than their face

Very true!

Concerning my house, I want someone to walk into my place and know instantly that I live there. I want anyone who knows me to walk in and think, “ahh yes, of course Drew lives here,” and not because of family pics.

The thought of having to stage my house for sale in a year by depersonalizing it is actually causing some anxiety.

Just for you then Drew, here’s the cat having a sleep on the table in our back garden while I finish my book. Great views of the neighbours washing over the wall…

Why is it that everybody else's living room looks tidier than mine ever does?

I have to be careful of angles in my house. My supervisor is pretty strict on what goes public. She’s ok if I show off my other supervisor.

And my back 40 is mostly unkempt woods beyond my unkempt yard.

This thread from some time ago gave some insight, albeit limited to hallways.

I don’t know how I missed this thread originally. I love it.

And thank you everyone for sharing on this thread. I love the glimpse behind the curtain.

Ooh yes. Maybe in the morning I'll do a "me stirring coffee in the garden" shot.

I must say this is always a bonus aspect of the new watch zoom events   and the last one, The Twelve, got me wondering whether I was actually seeing the forum member or whether maybe the forum member pans round and shows us a friend? I'll never know will I?

I’m right there with you Drew. Call me a stalker… the shoe fits! I also like to look in peoples windows while walking my dog. From the road/sidewalk, when their blinds are already open. Definitely NOT in a peeping Tom type of way…

As a bonus, here’s a peek into my chaotic life with 2 toddlers:

Do you work at "The Crimson Permanent Assurance"

Your pic reminded me of that scene in "The Meaning of Life" when they sail away in the office building.
