My favourites (all in the sad category :)) are:
- pulled the trigger.
- new boots/shoes.
- this bad boy.
- wrist presence.
Have to say that I really like the phrase ‘wrist presence’ - it’s quite cheesy but makes me smile. Like it might be a breakout phrase that would get used beyond the world of watch forums. Anna Wintour might say it non-ironically

The description that some people use to describe the build up of dirt on a bracelet or case back. It’s dirt, I’m happy with dirt, it’s not repulsive unless you really stop to think about what’s it’s made up of. It happens to everyone, nothing to worry about just wash it off and move one.

DON’T under any circumstances use the phrase ‘body cheese’ to describe it.

Has to be said that I’ve read this elsewhere and never on this forum. This is a civilised watch place :D
Lindsey you are indeed correct! :)

This place is fortunately free of that sadder, than a sad thing expression. However…

There are many who have used “bad boy” in the context of the watch or strap that they are wearing. :)

Albeit some were clearly taking the rise, when they did!

Pop - this isn’t sad, or particularly wonky. But I know that I never said anything like ‘looks great with that pop of colour’ before I joined the forum. That makes it at least suspicious in my mind

Yes, agree with thomcat and you. "Colourway" irritates me.

It would be interesting to know where in the Anglosphere these neologisms began. I have a suspicion that pulling the trigger on a bad boy might have crossed the Atlantic in an easterly direction, but I’m willing to be corrected.

I love some of the wee watchisms like 'Incoming!', but the one I honestly can't stand is when people say they 'got the call' - it just screams of the eliteism that spoils this hobby a little in my view (happy to forego this grumble when phrased tongue in cheek though  )

Absolutely. It's all Latin or Greek to me.

Ah yes, I am with you on that one!

Thing is I am not sure that it is widely used tongue in cheek. You can usually tell the person is serious, because you will likely find other posts referring to “my AD”! :silent:

“My AD”, no it’s a shop FFS!

I go to the dentist. I go to the Doctors. IF I had a solicitor (other than the firm used for any property related stuff, or drawing up Wills) I may say “my solicitor “. Ditto, if I was minted and needed a tax adviser or wealth manager. But “my AD” to describe the retail shop that sells watches. What next, “my authorised car dealership”?

But yes “got the call” is one of the best. Or should that be worst!

“My AD” is the stupidest thing ever said in the context of watch buying.

I just came back from “my supermarket” - needed some milk & bread.

This one’s a keeper - not entirely offensive because it expresses joy in a watch and that’s what it’s all about. Slightly sad, though, because it’s not often true
