I don’t use a phone in the movie theater but I have taken a few snaps at a recent concert. If the artist/act asks for no pictures/video I certainly honor the request. King Crimson is famous (notorious?) for this, even to lightly mock themselves in concert. But the audience does respect the stipulation. Mostly I see shows at smaller clubs and many of these scale acts designate times for cameras in the first set of the show. My Gen Z sons joined me at a recent concert and they kept their phones in their pockets. Most in the audience were similarly respectful.
As for phones in schools, NYS’ governor wants to implement a phone ban for all students in public schools. Interesting idea though it faces some resistance. We shall see where that goes.
