Speaking of collecting vinyl records, I picked up a gem today that the Scottish forumites might appreciate!

^^^ .. and at least one Aussie Forumite !
I have that album, albeit not on vinyl.... brings out my inner Scot! :D

Artwork for me. In particular painting and drawing, sculpture to a lesser extent.
The art that appeals to me is nowhere near as affordable as the watches though, so I have just have to admire from a distance.
cheers

Not the Big Country album for me, Andrew, but the Terence Trent D'Arby album that's peeking out of the top left corner. I saw him tour that album at the Brixton Academy in London. I was twenty I think, him just four or or five years older, possibly. Undoubtably one of the best vocalists to ever come out of the UK. That is a truly superb album.

Yes! That album was the find of the day yesterday. I wore that cassette out in high school. It wasn’t even on my radar as an album to look for until I saw it in the bins yesterday. Fantastic album! How cool that you saw him live.

And I’ll just add that while he came to fame as a singer in London, he is actually an American! He deserved more recognition over here than he got, that’s for sure.

(I also picked up Bowie’s Let’s Dance and 1999 by Prince.)

I’m a fan of vintage travel posters. Sadly, I have to settle for reproductions because the costs of originals are beyond my means.

Wonderful, aren’t they? Reminiscent of an era when travel was more enjoyable and life was more simple. In my case, images like this one have A GREAT DEAL to answer for.

That’s a gorgeous poster! I wish I’d been alive for the golden age of air travel and when travel by rail was a more elevated experience.

My problem now is that I’ve run out of wall space for prints.

Indeed. If you look carefully the detail on that one is exquisite. I love the elegant couple in the foreground. The little fish restaurant with the blue and white awning is called “ΤΟ ΨΑΡΙ” (To Psari, the fish). What a place to have lunch. Mind you, if you know where to go and can avoid the tourist tat, the all-you-can-eat buffets on the strip and the beaches where Mr and Mrs Chicken-McNugget and the Kids from the Dungeon Dimensions lie charbroiling, there are still some gems to be found.

I used to collect travel posters, some acquired for me by my late wife, she worked for TAP Air Portugal. Her colleagues and those with other carriers would help out too. I used the posters as a teaching resource, graphic design. When Maria died, I carefully rolled the posters up and placed them in storage where they remain today. One day they will be passed on to my children.

For me it would be boats, an even more expensive alternative.
2 bought in last 12 months, another due in a couple of weeks!

I saw and fell in love with this original Air France poster from 1947 by Lucien Boucher. The original was ridiculous money, but luckily I found a reproduction. As an added bonus, I was able to get it in a larger size than the original. This horribly lit pic does not do it justice.

Was it George Best who said he spent his money on booze, fast cars and women, the rest he just squandered.....
