I was taking some pics for sales corner...

Post by missF »

.... when I fell in love all over again...

Has anyone else ever put together a sales post for a watch and then started doubting whether they actually want to sell it??

I think the thing about this watch is that it cost an awful lot of money, and it was the most impulsive buy I have ever made. I’m not greatly impressed with the bracelet at that price, but for me it looks better on leather anyway. Oh - and lug width is 19mm so it’s not straightforward to find a ton of straps to renew the look. But here I am. The watch head is beautiful. I love bezels without inserts.

Who knows what’ll happen :ka:

the real test is the wrist test. lots of watches may look spectacular in photos, but for some reason when you put them on your wrist, it's not as magical to you.

so the question is... are you wearing it? if not, is it really the right watch for you?

[in total transparency, i have about 8-10 watches that mostly collect dust in my watch box. but in my defense, i *HATE* the selling process and that's why i continue to procrastinate selling them.]

I haven’t worn it for ‘quite a long time’. Before that I wore it more than any other. Then I decided I was going to sell it (can’t remember why  ), and because I had made my decision I stopped wearing it. It was all a bit black and white at this point...

Probably taking a good look again in order to sell it has made me realise it’s not a black and white decision. Given that it was very expensive I wish it was that straightforward!

The strap that I wore it on is a toshi strap so I can’t afford to buy three or four 19mm toshi straps in case I still end up selling :?

Definitely need to try a few new cheaper straps to bring the dial to life again.

I’ve procrastinated for years now for the same reason, though global pandemic accounted for some of that...

But if you don't ever sell anything,

how many piggy banks do you need to upend?
how much shelf space can you give over to watches?
where are you going to put ANOTHER watch box?

I think that maybe I'm currently working to a slightly different model: I only put something up for sale when I've worked through the "do I? don't I?" phase. I move the re-boxed watch away from the other watches almost but not quite to the front door so it has by this time gone out of sight and if I don't start pining for it then mentally I know I won't miss it.

That stuff about "Everything you see is for sale"? Not here it isn't!

To answer the question, yes.

But I came here to say that it's a stunning watch. Shades of the CW Atoll but nicer and more vintagey.

Yes.

What WAS I thinking of?

I also had my MeisterSinger up in Sales Corner at one point. Fortunately I withdrew it.

That’s astute. Take the watches for sale away from the social circle. Put them beyond the tribe as outcast. Take the spirit from them. My problem with this watch is that I didn’t create enough distance, and just as I was about to sell it the spirit crept back in again  :smoker:

I agree - the bezel and dial (especially) are just gorgeous. I’m glad you pointed out the vintageness because I somehow thought that it ‘should’ be worn on the bracelet. All the time. I’ll give myself a kick and try wearing it the way I like it maybe? This little watch has got me confused about a few fundamental things... Must sort my zen out!

i think it's really important to get back to my original post.

(a) are you wavering because it looks good in photos?

(b) or are you wavering because it looks good/makes you happy on the wrist?

because if it's just (a), then it ought to move on. unless maybe it's inexpensive (a subjective term we each need to define for ourselves) and it's something you'll wear occasionally "for the fun of it."

maybe you need to re-evaluate (b), but if you can't get to where (b) is true...

@gwells - you’re right. And I don’t think there’s any other question I need to answer. The best I can do is this - it looks as good in real life as in pictures so it’s not that. On the right strap I’d wear it loads..,

So. Should I potentially spend a lot of money on 19mm straps to find a great one for the watch?

An old vintage 20mm strap squidgy enough to fit. I’ll wear it for a few days. For now - it’s still not convincing me... Probably sales corner but it is a beautiful watch so I’ll give it one last chance...
