missF wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 8:44 am I’d love to set up one of those experiments where you track eye movements as different people look at different watches to check the time. You could also check how long they look for. Would that change for a new watch? I bet it would! Maybe these experiments have already been done- watch designers must have theories of watch design that are based on something tangible. You couldn’t commit to a whole production run of a new watch without any certainty that people are going to find it pleasing on the eye?

I love the Blancpain here. It’s cartoony and I love reading around the dial. I find it easy to move between different features. They all seem to stand apart from one another. Either because of colour differences or size differences. On the other hand, moving around the citizen dial feels like stirring through a plate of black and white spaghetti!

It takes a certain kind of person - that's probably all of us - to arrange their clothing so that their watch, rather than being concealed by the clothing on the wrist, is actually on display at all times. I admit to doing that a lot.

I'm just glad this thread gave me the opportunity to use the word 'discombobulating' in a meaningful way :)

Oh gosh though, it's a good thing we look for different things whilst at the same time enjoy each other's 'virtual company' and if not being on exactly the same page, are enjoying the same book!

I'm pretty sure those eye tracking experiments would tell me all sorts of things about getting distracted by things I wouldn't like to admit to myself!

^^^^ I like my watch to 'peep'..... :)

Well, I was just about to post a wee apology for overthinking everything and boring everyone..., I mean, how interested could anyone else be in black spaghetti and eye tracking experiments??
But no - there you all are! I’m glad to be here with you all discussing really important things. My friends don’t understand me. Perhaps it’s the same for you??!

Fascinating, Lindsey. Cartoony is such a great word to describe it, and it’s also exactly why I don’t like it. Perhaps I’m a bit too serious. Now, on the subject of black spaghetti, this was my Christmas lunch last year. Garlic prawns with black linguine, followed by a white chocolate and almond crêpe. We ate late, in a beautiful fusion restaurant on the hill and watched the sun go down over the sea.

But then, I can’t stand the usual UK Christmas food (or the usual UK Christmas either, come to that). Vive la différence, as the French say.

So you stare blankly ahead when you walk along the beach, Chris?

I have no idea of the significance of this picture.

It simply looks like a selection of culinary items on, and around, a piece of slate set on marble (at least that's as much as I can see on the small screen of my phono). :-k :-k

Ah, but I'm there to BE distracted, Steve

Damn, that Christmas lunch looks fine. I'd take that. And my eyes could divert all over the place and still enjoy it.

There was an experiment done where pictures of the offending furries were stuck onto x-rays to see whether radiologists (consultants or trainees) spotted them. Trainees were better than consultants because they didn’t have any ingrained pattern recognition yet and had to look around the whole screen to find pathologies. Consultants followed well ingrained patterns of where their eyes roved so often missed the obvious. :D

Now I am confused!

I do get the combination of juniper berries and rosemary - think roast haunch of venison. :)

But I am struggling with the black pasta and chilli?

Ok we could serve the venison with a chilli, dark chocolate and red wine sauce. But I still don’t get the black pasta…

Perhaps I am overthinking this…

As usual!

Too much happening with the two OP watches for me to enjoy looking at either of them. I like complications, but they need to be easy to interpret for me. I’m also quite happy with dress watch simplicity.

I am pretty sure that pattern recognition is why you can quite easily read text with misspellings, and bad grammar. You understand enough to get the message.
