We are going to Italy in June and it will probably be just the one.
Currently wearing my Bulova MoonWatch and have to be careful in case this isn’t the one and it hears me.

Instead of my usual 3, I changed to 1 with 3 different straps (incl bracelet). Worked like a dream!

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
Three and a half days in Istanbul with just the clothes on my back while waiting for lost luggage to show up taught me quite a bit about “necessities.” I travel far lighter now than I used but still not quite as light as I’d like too.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 12:05 pm Interesting range of replies.![]()
When I look at what we used to travel with (not even counting watches).
I used to take two or three books whereas now I take a Kindle. I even used to take things like shower gel until it dawned on me that Greek shops actually sold it! I used to take far too many clothes and shoes, but I learned an awful lot about laundry on the go when I spent five weeks walking the Camino in Spain and carrying my life on my back. I travel much lighter these days.

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
If I go away for our usual 14 nights (UK holidays only for me) I normally take a different watch for each day, plus a couple of extras.

Ah the “what watch should I take on holiday post”…biggus_richus wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 1:52 pmYes, all of this. And definitely no “tell me what watches I should take on holiday” post.

To be fair I think about 25% of those are people taking the pi%#. They already know what they are taking. It’s the other 75% I feel sorry for. Why, why, why would you ask a random person on the internet, what watches to take on holiday!

How many watches do you take on holiday?
I’m usually fairly minimal regarding travelling with watches; I’ve been on 2 and 3 month long trips and taken one watch. Admittedly, I’ve sometimes purchased a second watch on those trips, but that’s not usually planned. Other times I’ve been away for a long weekend and taken two or even three.
My thoughts trend along the lines that having unattended valuables either in the car or in a hotel room should be kept to a minimum, and they should preferably be easily replaced. For that reason even a watch I plan to be wearing the entire holiday will not be either expensive and/or rare/unusual. Something that’s water resistant enough for a swim, a bit of snorkelling, so probably either on a bracelet or pack a spare rubber strap if it’s on leather.
Also, I am mindful that anything I take may be worn while hiking, changing a tyre, banged around on a small boat; in other words, holiday activities. A watch worn for a couple of weeks or months on holiday will get more wear on it than most of mine do in several years, so if it cops a scratch, so be it. Hmm, maybe I should buy another Damasko for the next trip…

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
It generally seems to be about 3 watches I end up taking on my holidays, Lou generally about 2,
We are only having one holiday this year, road trip to the UK in September for roughly two weeks.
Still haven't even tried to contemplate how many I'll take........as that would be a long time for me to have only 2 or 3 watches.
One I will be taking is my vintage Rolex 'Tank' as it will be the perfect watch when we attend the Goodwood Revival, my long awaited 50th birthday present to myself, alas two years late due to the pandemic.
As to what other's I'll take I have no clue as yet, but I may try to keep it to just another two......

^^^^ However many you take Ferg, make it minus one on that number, as I'm sure there'll be a visit to CW Towers in your itinerary.

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
Last holiday (Rhodes Sep 2022) I took the C65 Chronograph, C65 Super Compressor and C60 Elite GMT... all great watches for holidays (simple, fun and colourful)
All on bracelets, as CW micro adjust is just so useful for the change in temperature in hot locations
We're off to Rhodes again in just over three weeks, so probably the same line-up, except might just take the first two only as they work so well (pool, beach and evening)

It would depend on where we were going and what we were doing, but typically I’d just take one that’s best suited for the trip.

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
There's a formula for this, it's called the n+1 formula and is used by cyclists as below. In the case of watches and vacations, n relates to the number of days on vacation PLUS the number of activities you think you might participate in.
So let's say you're going away for four days - that's 4 and let's assume that you think you're going to hike, swim and dine out, that's 3 activities.
n = 4 + 3 to which you've got to remember to add the constant plus 1.
Therefor you need 8 watches for a 4-day, 3-activity vacation. RESULT!!!
"The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned.
The idea behind n+1 is that you should own one more bike than the amount you currently own. "

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
Just reviving my own thread here. The more I travel, the more I think that more than one watch is pointless extra fret and baggage. I go to beautiful places and totally forget the in situ wrist shot. I literally use it to tell the time. I remembered to check it this morning and it had gained 30s in 8 days. I have a hybrid strap in my case but it has stayed on the bracelet. It has been in the big blue salty pool and in a couple of nice restaurants. What more do I need?

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
I think I agree with you Steve. On my recent 6 week 8,500km road trip I took four watches with me. I swapped to a Seiko SKX007 on day 2 and never felt any inclination to change it, so it stayed on for 6 weeks. Surprisingly for an SKX it only lost less than a minute a week, so every couple of weeks I advanced it two minutes and that was perfect “holiday timekeeping”. It was waterproof, fitted with an aftermarket strapcode oyster bracelet with a ratchet adjust clasp, so no fiddly adjustments with clasp pins were required as we travelled and changing to a strap never entered my mind. It was also, by almost any definition, not expensive.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:The more I travel, the more I think that more than one watch is pointless extra fret and baggage.
The other thing that never (really) entered my mind was taking a photo of it - the SKX is a workhorse all-rounder, but it was just there, never doing anything but telling the time, never really attracting my attention enough to admire it or take a photo. That’s probably a very good definition of a “tool watch”; it does the job, without any undue attention.
I think it will be my sole choice for the next trip.

Re: How many watches do you take on holiday?
I've just returned from holiday in East Devon and - after a bit of a think - I took three watches. Two quartz (Scurfa Diver One. Bulova "Surfboard") and one auto (Seiko "Cocktail time" Mockingbird). There are two of us and our small dog in an estate car, so space isn't an issue. Why three? Well, my wife never has a watch with her so borrows one of mine if we go out for the day, plus one spare/dining out in a local pub.
Unusually for me, I wore my D1 for swimming this year rather than leaving it in my bag on the beach.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left
