Holiday Travels

Post by jkbarnes »

There’s nothing worse than flying over a major holiday. My flight has already been delayed. Got here super early to allow for crowds, and surprisingly breezed through security.

On the downside, I left my wireless noise canceling headphones in the bag my wife brought with her, I’ve got almost THREE hours to kill, and the gates are overrun with A-holes leaving their bags on seats despite the crowds.

On the plus side, my parents dropped me off, my wife drove up earlier in the week with my bag so I didn’t have to check anything, and it’s a short flight to Providence.

I am. She drove up with her boys yesterday. I had to work, so I’m flying up today.

All things considered, it’s not as bad as I was expecting. I was through security in maybe 15 minutes, if even that. Not having a suitcase is nice!

Yes, RI. I’m assuming this is perhaps a literary or musical reference I’m not getting?

security has been a lot better lately (at least if you have TSA precheck, like i do). i've had to travel for work a few times this year and have cruised through security at DCA every time.

and i had to check a bag on my last trip, which is the first time i've done that in probably 7-8 years. blech. i can pack a ton of stuff into a carryon like nobody's business.

I would not hesitate to toss a bag on the floor and sit down (or if you really want to have fun, notify security of an unattended bag left on a seat).

That one annoys me to no end. People can be really self focused and rude.

Sadly, a lack of basic courtesy and consideration for others seems to increasingly be the norm.

As a quick follow up, as we were sitting on the plane, waiting to pull away from the gate, I noticed the guy next to me was cropping a photo of his watch (to post to a forum, I suppose). I couldn’t get a good look at the watch on his wrist, and didn’t want to ask. A bit later, a woman sat down between us and noticed me looking at the NCWOTD thread and commented on how both of us were looking at watches on our phones.
