Funny you should say that, my old all road is at the dealers (I can't do the diagnostics stuff myself). Several hundred quid for the niggles that need sorting, plus they wanted to sell me a new front air shock and the compressor for the air suspension, plus two new headlamps ( they are acrylic or something and look like they have been sandblasted so they are going opaque).

If I had agreed to the whole lot including labour and vat it would have come to £3,700.

2002 2.7T all road .... That's probably it's value with 100,000 miles on it.

So, looks like I am going to be in the workshop sorting suspension soon. Anyone think an anti scratch compound might work on the headlamps ? I would rather buy a new watch than give it all to the Audi main dealer....

Toothpaste is likely not abrasive enough to restore the headlights. Quite a bit of material will need to be removed. Wet sanding, and finishing with a plastic polish is probably your best option. Auto stores sell headlight restorations kits for fairly cheap. These usually contain everything you need: Various grits of wet sanding paper, and a polish of some sort.

This technique also works for badly scratched lenses. I used wet sanding and Mequiars plastic polish on the DRL/turn signal lenses on my Miata with good success. Cleaned up 20 years of scratches, and a small amount of discoloration.

No main dealers for me, too pricey. Mine's a gear box issue, second time in 12 months i've had to spend out on it for different issues so i guess the negative's you read about the audi auto gearboxes is well deserved.

I don't have access to the car right now (stored for the winter), so I can't get any pics of the turn signal lenses.
