Oh man, I want a Puffin now! :(

On the thread, I feel so sorry for the chap involved. It is awful when you see things like thos happening.

That is one of the reasons that I get so frustrated when people criticise the 30 post rule.

You earn respect. Many on here I have undertaken both forum based and private correspondence with. I would go so far as to consider some as friends, despite never seeing their face. This is a community as much as a forum.

Indeed, I gave made several purchases from people on the forum whom I have bolt a relationship with over a period of time, and some have requested bank transfer of funds. Did I hesitate? not for moment! Was there an issue? Nope.

Would I use a bank transfer with those who had 30 posts only? Not a chance!

The internet can be a wonderful place, but is can also be a sleazy minefield.

Caveat Emptor!

Scary isn't it. Like most of us I've bought and sold quite a few watches on the internet, and each time there's a little part of my mind that's just hoping for the best.

But even so there's still stuff like this:

http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?3 ... K-jrpippen

One guy says one thing, a group of guys say another thing. No evidence all round. Caveat emptor all you want but know what your buying otherwise a good guy can still pull the wool over your eyes. Maybe.

Edit: Evidence has been presented and it doesn't look good.

WOW! That's for sure. This just makes me so weary of buying second hand. I am now even more thankful for many of the experienced watch guys here on this forum that can offer sound advice to new guys like myself. Wow.

The chap detailed in the second thread is also a member here if I remember correctly...

As above, know what you're buying as well as who you're buying it from, and you should be good.

Certainly, I've saved thousands that way over the years.

Member or dealer? I've never considered his constant flipping to be the work of an enthusiast but that of a money spinner and have told one mod on at least one occasion (in jest) or so I recall, every sales post seems to be about what 'he needs to get back' from it which doesn't sound like an enthusiast to me. Forums are a great way to avoid all sorts of real world charges but thankfully are full of people hard to fool and that made for a very interesting read.

Yep, and it still has a way to go I think.

From what I remember, he's a bandsman with the RAF, so dealing watches isn't his main occupation but certainly seems a sideline.

Seems like it's all unravelling anyway...

Crikey, that thread took me about half an hour to read and digest! Amazed he kept coming back and back again to try and justify himself. I've bought quite a few watches in my time but never considered that there were unscrupulous sellers out there. Perhaps I'm a little too trusting

Do you have to be a member to read the tz uk forum? I haven't been able to access both tz links in this thread the last 2 days.

From a newbies perspective...I haven't quite reached the 30 post count yet and agree that in principle it's a good thing to have some restrictions. In some ways, perhaps 30 posts is not enough having read the previous comments in this thread. Too many and it would put people off, but I guess that is the intention. Genuine people won't have a problem with it, which is the point.

One of the things that I think is good about this forum is the sellers feedback section (although I haven't read it yet due to under 30 posts). If members sell watches regularly over a period of time a reputation can be built. If a trader is trying to sell, it would be obvious to the more experienced forum members and we can all benefit from their valuable input.

If a bloke came up to you in the street, opened his jacket and asked, "Do you want to buy a watch, mate", you'd run a mile and rightly so. Buying from a forum member with no longevity or history of selling is not so different in my view. The vast majority of people are honest, but there will always be some who will take advantage.

As they are both in the public forum on TZUK, I do not think you need to be registered or logged-in to read those threads - so I'm afraid I cannot explain why you can't access them. :problem:

Looks like the thread has been moved to the "Heroes and Villains" (feedback on sellers/buyers) sub-forum, which is restricted to members.

Yes, just catching up after a couple of days away, and you are right - the Omega thread has moved. The original "Have I been scammed" thread remains in Watch Talk and should be visible without membership...
