Fourteen short years...

reminded me that I also have an anniversary today. On the 11 December 2008, I made the following post here :

I've been hanging around this forum and especially the CW site for a while now, so I thought I should say hello...

After some subtle(?) hints, my wife has decided to buy a CW watch for my Christmas present. I gave her a short-list and she has ordered one of them..

I have a strong suspicion it is between the C3 Malvern Corax or the C3 with Black face and Brown leather strap. Either way, I can hardly wait!

Anyway, looking forward to receiving the watch...I'll keep you posted!

Regards

It was the black dial steel case in the end. :)

Since that watch, a rather embarrassing 96 watches have passed through my hands, including 36 CW's.

It's been quite a ride!

@downer

Richard - I must say that black chronograph has a very fresh modern look. I hope you still have it, and it gets an occasional or even frequent wear.
Is that the C3 Malvern you mentioned? :D

It is indeed the C3 Malvern. I kept it 3 or 4 years but in the end it went (with Mrs D's agreement) to fund another "must have" purchase. In fact that's the basic story of the past 14 years. Buy, keep a while, sell, repeat.

Quite a milestone, Richard – beat me by two and a half years to the day! Congratulations. You’ve slowed down, I know, but I wonder when we will see the century??

Many congratulations to you.

Definitely a Forum stalwart.

I fit in between you and AVO in the longevity stakes but am no match for either of your posting powers.

A milestone!

Look on the bright side Richard! :)

- There are a few well known forumites that have at least 90+ watches in their collection at the moment.
- You have managed to stick to sensible number at any one time.
- You seem to have quit the hamster wheel of seeking out and chasing grail quality watches.
- You don’t seem to have gone (quite) as far down the rabbit hole on acquiring motorcycles, as you did watches.

Fourteen years on the forum? An ideal opportunity to go for a lovely C63 Sealander FLE, before orders close.

If you could buy back just one of the sold watches (at the price you sold for) to wear and keep (not because of the current value) what would it be?

You make some good points, Neil. You are right about the motorbikes, although 8 in 4 years would be considered excessive in some circles...

As for the FLE, I have been tempted but held firm.

Your final question (which one would I buy back) is a tough one. I had a look through the list and a few jumped out:

Sinn 358 Jubilaum

Zenith EP

One of several AT's

But perhaps the one I'd like back most is the Geophysic.

^^^ I thought that you would say the JLC. That would have been my choice as well.

Good to see your photos on the forum again, you’ve been quite quiet recently. I do admire your photo skills, much better than my quick snaps with my phone camera.

96 watches in 14 years is quite the achievement. I’ve not kept count of all mine which is probably for the best.

What is it about that JLC? Maybe the way it bridges the gaps between sport, field and elegance. Not an easy thing to do.

Today is also the anniversary of when my first wife died. She was young, leaving me with two boys to raise. I had no choice but to pick myself up and look into the future. All the good memories kept me going but at times it was tough being the sole parent. That is until I met Coral, also widowed very young. We formed our own Brady Bunch, two boys and two girls. Now we are grandparents and richer for it.

In part, I’m glad I found this forum, at times frustrating and expensive. The best being, are the four friendships formed.

Your own “rules” thread is probably the most quoted and resurrected on the forum - deservedly so.

What other highlights have stood out for you? I imagine the Archive launch must rank pretty highly.
