Never blot a letter with a hard boiled egg.

Eddie Wild - B-Shift Draw Wind Operative, ICI Fibres circa 1990

He used to just throw them out there and wouldn't or couldn't explain them!

Always difficult to be certain if quotes have been correctly attributed, but some of my favourites allegedly emanate from Gary Player:

'It's a marriage. If I had to choose between my wife and my putter, well, I'd miss her.'

'You must work very hard to become a natural golfer.'

'The more I practice, the luckier I get.'

'Simply by making the effort to start something, you will be miles ahead of almost everyone else.'

'I've studied golf for almost 50 years now and know a hell of a lot about nothing.'

'I am tired of all these golfers who are happy with second place. The only one who will like you if you come in second place is your wife and your dog. And that is only if you have a good wife and a good dog.'

But probably the one that sends a shiver down my spine most of all when I think back to hearing it originally:

Brian Hanrahan:

'...I counted them all out and I counted them all back.'

Depending on your age ( and nationality ) this will either mean something or absolutely nothing.

thanks for all your replies so far!

marcus aurelius was good for some memorable advice:

'nothing happens to a man that he is not formed by nature to bear'

'don't be ashamed to need help. like a soldier storming a wall, you have a mission to accomplish. and if you've been wounded and you need a comrade to pull you up? so what?
