Favourite complication
Here's a shout out for the humble power reserve. It's really a friendly and interesting complication to have. It's great to see if an idle recreational life style can maintain full power. I think not, personally.

Re: Favourite complication
100%!! My Spring Drive has one of course, and a funky location but I love it.
Can't take my eyes off this one though. Best PR implementation I've seen.
Because my GS has sunburst champagne dial, I'd probably go for it in this anthracite/rose gold version.

Re: Favourite complication
In terms of utility it’s hard to beat a power reserve and/or date. Complications needn’t be complicated.

Re: Favourite complication
- Most useful most often: Date
- Favorite ‘every day’: Chronograph (and you have to remind yourself how complicated it is relative to how common it is)
- Like but don’t yet own: Power reserve
- Honorable mention: Anything moon-related I like in theory but haven’t ever really found a moonphase where I like the art of it - the one exception maybe being the Snoopy Moonswatch.
- Overrated complication: I know this might be a little controversial (and own a couple) but unless you’re a pilot or traveling so often, I never really ‘got’ the usefulness of a GMT function. When I travel I just change the time on my watch…?
- Absolute favorite just for the sake of it: Minute repeater. I think the engineering of that is outstanding.

Re: Favourite complication
I’ve never owned a watch with a power reserve, not for any particular reason though.
I find a GMT useless when travelling but very helpful to know at a glance if the text I’m about to sent to someone in a different time zone is likely to wake them up. However I only used it this way once when my daughter went on a trip to America.
What I do find a GMT useful for is knowing if the watch stopped at AM or PM so I can set it quickly without having to spin the hands round the dial to find out.
However the only complication I have on most of my watches is the date which I find the most useful complication.
Favourite complication? I don’t really have one as such it’s more about the watch as a whole.

Re: Favourite complication
To be fair, I’ve never said that I really need one or that I use it much when travelling. I’ve been in GMT+2 for ten days and never really thought about the time at home. I’m quite good at subtracting 2.timepieces_and_bags wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 9:37 am Overrated complication: I know this might be a little controversial (and own a couple) but unless you’re a pilot or traveling so often, I never really ‘got’ the usefulness of a GMT function. I just like them, especially the traveller GMT on the Ulysse Nardin, where I don’t have to reset the watch, just push a button.

Re: Favourite complication
I'm with you in this one. For my relatively variable levels of activity and often swapping between running watches, I think a power reserve is my favourite.

Re: Favourite complication
Most used complication. Day/date. Especially at times like this where I can loose track of what day it is
Most admired complication would be a astronomical moon phase such as the CVDK which I think are stunning
Most technical complications that I admire would be the day night complication from Krayon which I think is just staggering
Rarely use my Chronograph or dive derived complications and my tide complication is ok but limited

Re: Favourite complication
My favourite complications are GMT, chronograph and power reserve.
I particularly like the visual impact of a GMT, although whether travel or office type it is not something that I tend to bother with for the intended purpose. I am quite good at maths and well able to work out what home time is when away, if I really needed to.
Here is a travel GMT on its travels in a +2 time zone. Amazingly I managed to cope for a month without needing the watch to remind me that home time was 2 hours earlier!

Re: Favourite complication
At the moment my favourite complication is world time, if that counts as a complication in horological sense. It is of little practical use, but oh so romantic and old fashioned. As are all mechanical watches, really. It’s a bit like having the world on my wrist.
