Deja vu?
Senna vs Prost 1989 or 1990?
Take your pick.

Re: F1 2021 Motorsport Thread
Motorsport is not really that high on my list, and I don’t know much about it so forgive the intrusion!
I do remember the incidents involving Prost and Senna, and it was all pretty unsavoury at the time. One would hope to avoid a repeat. I suspect that Hamilton’s best chance is to out to qualify Verstappen and stay ahead of him. Let’s just hope it’s a clean and fair race for all concerned.
In any sport, if you are a partisan of a particular club, country or participant, you may be more than happy with an easy win. But these nailbiters certainly provide excitement: the 2003 RWC final; the shootout in the recent Euros; the super over at Lord’s, and so on…even if I was partisan in all three of those.
I just hope the title isn’t decided because someone played dirty.

STEWARD’S OFFICE - SAUDI ARABIA
“Thanks for coming in Max, hopefully we won’t keep you long. We’ve had to call you in to discuss your driving in today’s GP.
So let’s deal with the 2.4g deceleration on the straight when you were supposed to give the position back to Lewis. Your action could have caused an accident…..what’s that? Yes, as usual you’re correct, it did cause an accident. We mean it could have been really dangerous.
Due to the potential danger of your actions we are giving you a 10second penalty so when that is applied you’ll be, er well, 2nd still.
Additionally we’ll be adding 2 penalty points to your licence, making 7 for the 12month period. What’s that you said? No it won’t make any difference as next week is the final race and then there’s no races for a few months so points will drop off. Yes again, as always you are correct.
We hope you’ll consider your driving in future after seeing the effect of these penalties. Er, yes again you’re right there isn’t any effect.
So Max, thanks for popping in, best of luck next week.”

Re: F1 2021 Motorsport Thread
I've never been a big fan of F1 and stopped watching a few years ago as it just felt boring.
Over the last couple of months it has been a great watch leaving me wondering if it has just got good or have I missed out for years?!
Hope LH wins the championship but MV is a real talent and despite some questionable on the edge driving it has made this season special and long may this rivalry continue. Hopefully other great up and coming drivers such as Laclerc and Norris can get involved once Lewis retires too.

Re: F1 2021 Motorsport Thread
I think we'll see Lewis setting a high water mark across the board (WDC, laps led, races won, pole positions, etc) then put his efforts into developing Russell alongside him, maybe even playing wingman to him.
Re: F1 2021 Motorsport Thread
How about this for a scenario in the final race:
Mad Max, with red mist descending, realising that Lewis is about to get away from him, brakes even later than normal and takes both himself and Lewis out of the race with only a couple of laps to go.
Celebrates as both drivers climb (fortunately unharmed) from their cars.
Lewis shakes his hand and wishes Max better luck next year……
Unfortunately mad Max was so intent on winning at any cost, he had overlooked that Lewis had just gained a point for fastest lap during the previous lap!

That would be so sweet, Neil - the only problem is that to get the point for fastest lap the driver has to finish in the points (top 10).nbg wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 5:36 pm How about this for a scenario in the final race:![]()

Re: F1 2021 Motorsport Thread
Brilliant, Neil.

A random thought;-
Max's car having had its rear right suspension demolished in qualifying and then the rear end generally thumped by Lewis in the race, he might need a new gearbox.
Cue 5 place grid penalty.

There's a small chance that any outstanding scores with vettel, raikkonen and or Alonso could be settled at the final round, and there's Schumacher potentially wanting to protect his father's record to contend with too. All senna, prost, alesi, burger esq conspiracy theories abound.

To me, it looks like the stewards are bending over backwards to favour Mad Max.
I really hope Lewis wins, and that's sort of a first for me.

Really interesting article on Max Verstappen.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/59555388
You do have to admire his talent and determination. I'm sure he will win multiple world titles, hopefully not starting this year though!
