I set out early on Wednesday morning and got as far as the Norwich Ring Road before getting completely stuck in stationary traffic. At which point the text came out advising us that the school was closed. I called my boss and managed to turn round, but it took me over three hours to drive the 11 miles home. Mainly due to numpties who can’t drive on the stuff! I think I got out of the car nine times to push people (and once for a pee)!

I have had an awful two weeks at work! Workload related last week, meaning my usual ten hour shifts stretching to 14 hours on a couple of days and weather related this week. We have lots of automated systems that transfer liquids around or operate using liquid as a medium. Everything froze, which meant that level controls failed and testing equipment didn’t operate correctly. I’ve been doing so many things the “old fashioned way” which has meant spending about 80% of my time outside freezing my begonias off. If that wasn’t enough, I had to go in today because no one else could get through the snow! Now it’s thawing, all those frozen pipes are going to split or burst! That’s the usual chain of events. Trace heating and lagging tends to fail after years of not being needed.

We spent the week on the Suffolk coast, probably within an hour (on a good day) of Dibley. The last time we used the car, until driving home today was on Sunday.

It meant we had to change our plans a bit, but walking along the beach in the Siberian like wind was an experience! Well wrapped up under multiple layers kept us warm - other than face, or hands when I removed gloves to take photos.

Still managed to see a bearded tit, as well as many other pleasing sights.

The wind made it savagely cold.

Long drive home today was fine and we even managed to get back down our Close, which is normally a casualty for days on end when we have snow. Most snow now melted.

Yesterday our son in law, who lives in Cardiff, had to clear a path of about 50 metres to get his car out, as our daughter is 37 weeks pregnant and had a hospital appointment!

Well I’m very proud to say that our family business that provides support to people with dementia, learning and physical disabilities, has not let one person that we support down over the last few days. My staff have been absolutely fantastic, walking many miles due to not being able to drive to some of the remote places. They will all be getting a bonus this month out of my own pocket. I just wish that this country would provide the funds to pay companies like ours enough to pay our staff what they are worth. I’m now going to bed for the first time since Tuesday night! I would give my opinion on schoolteachers, ‘snow days’ etc.. but I won’t as I don’t want another warning!

Had about 1cm snow. No problem. Very cold wind though.
I work in a gas production plant, very high demand and prices, but it was hit badly by frozen control systems resulting in restricted production. Just getting back to normal output now.

Had to go to work yesterday morning for 05:30 so left at 03:50, took an hour and 25 minutes. Normally about 20/25 minutes.
My MINI Convertible was a true star and minded me throughout, very capable and nice and toasty warm inside too :)
Photo looking outside my window at home the day before I went to work.
The other two photos are of my Convertible parked at work and of the road down into work yesterday.

Had a bit of fun Friday returning to Aberdeenshire from Bahrain.

Flight from Amsterdam to Aberdeen cancelled and was told at first that the advice for England (not great geography from the Dutch lady) was to travel by train. Not bad advice except it will be around 20 hrs on the train. Finally after 2 hours got an agent who found a way home - via Bergen in Norway. So arrived home 8 hrs later to a foot of snow.

Hopefully the flight back to Bahrain on Monday morning will be OK.
