I think we should stick with BST. It will be great in a couple of weeks so when the we spring forward, and very sad when we fall back to misery next October.

We only go back to GMT to help Scotland.

Most countries have time zones based on longitude but our problem is latitude not longitude. Scottish daylight hours in winter are very short, so they should do what they want, and if that means they have a different time zone to the rest of the UK, so be it. :D

I’ve given this some thought, and I’m coming round to the view that, although we should stick to a single time zone, it should probably be BST.

Meanwhile, a slightly related item…

The March Equinox is due to happen this Thursday, 20th March, at 09.01 GMT. The sun should therefore be overhead at the Equator somewhere close to 45°E. That should be just about in the Indian Ocean, close to the coast of Somalia and a little way to the south of Mogadishu. Probably not the best place to linger in a boat, but if you happen to be there you can always whip out a sextant and take a quick measurement for us. :D

It’s not the actual “Equinox” until Thursday, but today is the nearest to “Equilux”.

Sunrise : 0601 GMT - 090°
Sunset : 1804 GMT - 270°

It’s official: we have more daylight than dark. 8)

Well, here we are at last.

Apart from having to adjust the one watch that is running at the moment, and a couple of clocks, everything else seems to be automatic, with one exception…

My car has an app that is perfectly happy to tell me exactly how far I drove, how fast, how much petrol I used, where I should have braked or accelerated more effectively, what percentage of the journey I spent in EV mode. I can even warm the car up when I’m in the house.

But will it update the car clock? Will it **** ! :censored:

Despite receiving GPS and all sorts of information, it is totally incapable of updating the time, and you have to adjust it manually if it has drifted or the clocks have gone forward/back. Come on, Toyota, I love you but get a grip.

Small price to pay. Here’s to some nice light evenings.

My car does thankfully update itself automatically Steve (my last one didn't, but did have a handy toggle in the menu to switch between GMT and BST, so changing it was simple!) although it does have a strange (some might call it infuriating) issue, in that the time shown on the main drivers display (a small LCD screen behind the steering wheel) isn't completely in sync with the clock on the 'big' screen on the infotainment system! Only by a few seconds, but enough that if you're looking at them it drives you mad
