Day/date watch poll

Post by strapline »

I think I really like this watch, and not least because of the unusual day/date format. Typically day/date watches are displayed in a horizontal format at the three position on the watch dial. So I've run a poll to see what forum members think and see if they would entertain buying a day/date in this configuration. If you have further comments you're welcome to add them also.

My brain has to work extra to decypher what the day of the week is when the lettering/orientation goes this way. + it looks 'wrong'. I dont mind the next to eachother on the 3 o-clock or the Rolex way with day above the 12. But this.. im thinking Jurrasic park.. I quite like a date on its own at 6.00 - it’s out of the way until you need it. That’s too obtrusive. I’ve never actually been a day/date fan. Like Bill Masen, I know what day it is, though I do get a tad confused at Christmas and New Year when they’re all the same.

Wow - that's a SIN to place it there.
CW watch count - enough to keep me very happy, but always room for more!

I like it. An early Bremont model had that day/date arrangement too, the 39mm BC-F1.

I’m not a fan of day/date in general, with the exception of Rolex’s execution with the day at 12 o’clock.

Ahhh...this has been interesting so far, and probably what I expected - a 75/25 split in votes. It kinds of bucks the traditional and accepted norms in terms of watch layout for sure. I like the symmetry along with the stylish Sinn branding at 12; personally I find it incredibly easy to decipher at a glance, too. A day/date has never been on my shopping list either, but I really feel it adds to the dial here. I also like the dual purpose bezel, with the scope for a second time zone as well as being able to measure elapsed time. There's a somewhat futuristic element to the hands and indices which I like as well.

I expect that the 'no' votes will run out the winner by some distance, let's see.

I like nearly everything that Sinn produces and my only day/date watch is their 104, which I’m wearing today. Nevertheless, this implementation is not for me; if they’d put the day radially at 12 then I probably would’ve bought it by now.

However, I really like the bezel layout which would be brilliant on the 104 and also the 105 UTC model with a 24 hr layout alongside the count up dive markings.

My gut reaction is 'No'.

It's different I grant you and I like different, but it's a shade too far.

If it were a 'radial' day as on my Hamilton Khaki King XL, as I think Tim @timor54 means, then that's fine as it conveys the benefit of having the day in full, but this way around then 'No'.

Maybe though it's down to it just not being the way I'm used to it, and over time, I could be swayed to saying 'Yes'.

I like it. I also like the hour marker shape being mirrored on the second hand, plus the combined countdown and second time zone feature of the bezel.

I love it. Very aesthetically pleasing. I’d go for this over the 3 o’clock aligned day/date. I’ve never been a great fan of the 12 o’clock day either, so I think I’d go for this style if I ever decided to go for a day/date. Perhaps this very watch. I’ve always been very intrigued by Sinn…

I much prefer the Bremont. But I wouldn’t buy either.

Although to be fair, the position of day/date at six is only marginally worse than at three.

I’m not sure I’d buy one with the day date at 6. I have seen the Bremont before and also am not a fan. Day date at 3 though is perfectly acceptable, I did like my Bremont MB2.

I am also wearing my Sinn 104 today and like the day/date at 3 O'clock. The day/date at 6 O'clock doesn't look right to me, so I would have to pas on this model even though Sinn is one of my favorite brands. Just the date at 6 O'Clock also looks good to me which is the layout on my Monta. It is the addition of the day that messes it up for me.
