I will publish the solution and results on Sunday.

In fairness I will say that we do have a winner, but you have a couple of extra days to solve it. :D

I can stop racking my brain now.

Managed to get 17, (2 are guesses).

Great way to pass the time - thanks for posting.

Maybe do a general knowledge one next month? They are a heck of a lot easier to compile, and I suspect to solve with the advantage of t’internet.

I’m not used to the UK crossword tradition, so that will be the excuse I’ll use to myself. Only three so far!

Whilst my mother can do the Times crossword in about 30 minutes, I am hopeless so will pass on this. I did have a quick look and after a couple of minutes got one but the chances of me completing this are about the same as a Hublot becoming the next forum darling. :problem:

Thanks for putting this together Steve, I look forward to the announcement of the winner tomorrow.

I fear "The Sun" have lead me to believe I am a crossword genius, with their daily "2 speed crossword", and failed to prepare me for the reality that, I'm actually an idiot.

Spent 10 minutes trying, got 2, I'm not even sure we're correct, decided that hugging my knees, whilst rocking myself to sleep in the corner, was a more productive use of my time.

Thanks for posting though AVO.

Re: Cryptic Crossword Competition...ANSWERS!

Post by Amor Vincit Omnia »

Here are the answers.

It seems that not many members do this type of crossword. There is a bit of a mindset involved, but once you learn the various tricks for disguising clues (mainly anagrams, puns, abbreviations, reversals and hidden words) they’re not that hard.

Well done to our winner, Atnits. He actually solved it rather quickly but agreed with me that I should allow it to run for a day or two. Congratulations, Anthony, your book will be in the post tomorrow.
