Christmas trees 2023

Post by Amor Vincit Omnia »

I haven’t bothered for a few years, but I thought I’d try to make an effort this time. Only a 3 foot artificial tree, I’m afraid. Decked in gold and silver, and at the base of the tree is what @iain calls my chessboard. Actually an olive wood crib made in Bethlehem. I look forward to seeing yours…

I hadn’t decided whether or not to put up a tree this year, but between it being the last Christmas in my house and this thread, I’ve decided to put one up. Pics to come at some point.

Christmas tree day is always an event in our house, my daughter even came home from university for the weekend to ‘supervise’.

These are the three main trees in the hallway under the stairs, the corner of the kitchen, and the red one is in the lounge.

@iain Those are great, and your house has so much character! You need a chess set, though. :D

Thank you Steve, yes the house is an old barn. It’s grade 2 listed but we don’t know exactly how old it is. There are records of the adjoining house being built in 1698 and the barn was here then. It’s certainly a lot older than The USA.

As for character, if you count it being 15 degrees C in the kitchen at the moment with the heating on, then yes. It oozes character but that’s not always a good thing in older properties. However being up north means it’s affordable, if I sold up I’d struggle to afford a terraced house down south.

I’m afraid my chess set isn’t the seasonal variety so probably doesn’t belong in this thread….

The north/south property price divide in the UK is crazy. When I lived in Cambridge last, small two bedroom mid-terrace properties were selling for well over £400k. No garage, virtually no garden and, typically, very haphazard paving stones outside your front door that the council called a pavement. Madness with no end in sight...

As this will be my last Christmas in this house, I felt I had to put a tree up. All the ornaments had been my grandmother’s. I can’t seem to find the tree topper I had from her. I need to find something to put on top.

We bought ours this afternoon. Decided to go for a potted tree, as it will last longer.

It sat upright in the footwell of the car between the front and back seats. The mud from the pot has now been removed from the cream coloured upholstery.

Only soft/non breakable ornaments this year. Mostly squishmallow ornaments in fact. Life with two 3-year olds.
