Cheap but I love wearing it...

Post by missF »

Please help me with the space in my collection and recommend me a ‘cheap but I love wearing it watch’... No judgements here - cheap is whatever you want it to mean. Cheap according to you, cheap according to your other watches, cheap according to how much you spend on takeaway and beer. I’m looking for a watch that I can wear (and live wearing) on days when I don’t know how to choose.
A default watch :D

100m WR is good
20mm lug width
Maybe some good colour
Needs to be comfy

Pics if you can. Show me yours or make me a recommendation

Not super cheap, but definitely less costly than most, is my RZE. Titanium and thinner case makes it very comfy to wear, and the hardened coating makes it so I don’t worry at all what I’m doing when I wear it. I have the endeavor which is around $550 USD ($399 when I bought 2 years ago…) but their field watch is only $299. Great watches for a great price IMO.

@ajax87 - ah - I’ve looked closely at their field watches before. Trouble is I forget things so easily
Will definitely take another look

I don’t tend to do takeaways or beer. However I do like eating in nice restaurants.

It’s a toss up as to whether this costs more than a decent meal out since I bought it about three years ago.

Lindsey I realised I lost track of prices when talking to a nephew at my oldest daughter’s 40th party at their house in 2021…

Nephew - Is that a JLC you are wearing?

Me - yes. I didn’t realise you were into watches.

Nephew - yes.

(Long conversation follows…)

Me - Seiko blah, Rolex blah etc…

Nephew - you only paid that for a Sarb017?

Me - yes I bought it from a friend #.

(More wine was consumed over the next few hours and I went in the house and retrieved his grail for him to try on).

Neil

# I bought it from Bernie. A former forumite.

I’ve owned some brilliant watches over the years that I’ve bought from fellow forumites at great prices. And all of them in such good condition.

Another one I’d forgotten about is the Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic, black dial, white lume, 3,6,9 configuration. Sadly out of stock :(

I think the SARB017 always deserves a second look.    I couldn't get on with it then and I really don't like the replacement model.

It sounds like you bought it just after the model was pulled from the line-up and resale prices went up?

Inexpensive to me would be my C65 handwinds (I hope you get your khaki one sorted, Lindsey), which I acquired reasonably in CW sales. Inexpensive but classy.

Even less expensive would be my son's Orient's. We bought him a Kamasu in the dark red, and he has just bought himself a new Mako 3 in champagne colour. They are his beaters, and they are super.

There's a load of stuff at £100 or less. Invicta's are good value, despite the naysayers. I love my Berny version of the Railway Watch, which was only about £60 incl VAT. I have other Chinese watches, not to mention quartz watches.

Lindsay what an excellent theme for a thread! Top banana

Setting aside the "cheap and I don't get a lot of joy...." brigade I have come up with a trio which fit your criteria and are outwith the CW banner: I know that's my choice.

Heimdallr titanium case MM300 homage: tough, light and amazing lume.

Seagull Chinese airforce replica: just a cute watch.

And for sale in this very parish: Tissell SUBMERSIBLE : period case sizing and looks. Not Chinese, not available through Aliexpress.
