You're not the first to say this, yet I struggle to believe it - perhaps it's no coincidence that everyone who says it uses an iphone. Does a couple of mm in depth really make that much difference or do I just live in a backwards part of the country where sensibly loose jeans aren't a thing?Thegreyman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 9:16 pmI have an iphone 12, 6.1 inch screen, and find that a good compromise of a large enough to be useful screen but still small enough to fit comfortably in the front pocket of my jeans.
Most of the time when I go out for a cycle or casual walk I just need my phone and no cash/cards, thanks to the convenience of Apple pay.
Need? I've not used a byte of mobile data this year, that probably says enough. Why then do I have a phone that looks like a mini laptop on order? Because 18 months ago my life was different and it's been endlessly delayed. Now I find myself looking for a new job so maybe by the time it gets here I'll have a use for it, but I still haven't worked out how I'm going to carry it.tikkathree wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 4:42 pm'course it all depends how much functionality you need to carry around with you (this is Samsung Galaxy Note 8 man talking here....) but there are cigarette packet-sized phones still available.
In fact I know blokes who have the standard "large internet device" phones plus a tiny and very old fashioned phone as well specifically for taking into "the wilds"; the latter tend to have battery life measurable in days or weeks rather than hours but still offer phone/text/location tracking.
Somewhat unsurprisingly if you put a smartphone in 2G only mode and only use it as often as you would have used a classic phone it does last days, even spending hours a day hunting for a signal. A big touchscreen still wont bounce as well though so a proper phone is a good idea if you're going wild.
