i'm curious then - what would be the content of your over 18 thread?? moderation applies across the whole forum - which means that - on balance - the whole forum benefits from it. so you can't have a single thread that isn't moderated. this is a community, and as such i have to accept rules i don't like if they work for the majority of the community. i'll just have to swear at my computer screen from here on in.TigerChris wrote:

Can we have an over 18 thread?

I'm a tad worried your first thought was naked firemen?hughesyn wrote:Rules are rules.
Without them we'd be sharing photos of naked firearms and commenting on Curmudgeon's corner posts.
And then where would we be?
now i'm worried I read naked firemen when it says firearms.

Well ****. It looks like I missed out on the fun.
I still cannot understand the need for the starring out of certain words. We are all adult here (or near enough to have heard all the words). Why can't we act like adults, who occasionally swear.

Ay, there's the rub. Does this rule work for the majority of the community. There is certainly a group of active forumites that have stated that this rule doesn't work for them. While this group is not the majority of forum members, it is certainly a large segment of the forum regulars.missF wrote:this is a community, and as such i have to accept rules i don't like if they work for the majority of the community.
So I ask again. Does this rule work for the majority of the community, or does it work for the moderators?

Good question that, and as there are a few mods online at the moment maybe one of them could give an answer?Lavaine wrote:Ay, there's the rub. Does this rule work for the majority of the community. Re: Can we have an over 18 thread?
For the record, I don't want swearing on the forum.
Rule 1 and the ****s work for me.
Doesn't me we can't poke fun at ourselves and the system though.
The idea that a simple algorithm can sanitise the forum is a joke.
We had more fun with asterisks than actual naughty words anyway.

You lot should try coming to work with me- theres more profanity generated before the morning brew is over than there is on this entire site...and thats usually just the comments about the standard of flatulence (i have such classy work colleagues)

Re: Can we have an over 18 thread?
I'm a member of a forum that allows swearing but surprisingly very little is used. We also have a members only section which strictly limits access to members, and is use for jokes, "artwork", and anything offensive to women must be marked in the heading Warning. Not suitable for women. This section is not often used, we got it out of our system years ago, the forum has been going for about 16 years.

Re: Can we have an over 18 thread?
A post has been made in the other thread that this rule is being reviewed by the moderators. I guess we will have to sit back and wait to see what the result of the deliberation is. At the end of the day, I doubt it will make any real difference either way. People have, and will continue to use the forum, with or without swearing, and if it is allowed, I wouldn't expect any significant amount of blue language.Lavaine wrote:Ay, there's the rub. I do applaud the moderators for taking the time to consider this change based on feedback from the members.
