Thanks Steve, we have just completed a four week trip around Queensland totalling some 7,000 kilometres in the Porsche and I can say that it is a bloody brilliant car in any and all of the conditions we threw it into. If the Beetle is half the car the Porsche is (and I'm sure it will be) I think we will be very happy with it.
It is well and truly run in then!
I am so glad it is fulfilling expectations.....are you getting good mileage (should that be kilometrage?)

Depending on speed and road conditions (and the flexing of the right foot...), we got anywhere between 38 and 45 mpg (fully loaded too), so pretty good for a big lump... :)

That's excellent.

.. . . but what does it really drop to with a heavy right foot?

Beetle, Mini or 500?

Low thirties Guy... Which is still not bad. The petrol engined version gets about half of that at the very best, but admittedly has a bit of an edge in performance.

I think diesel is the way to go with SUVs though, not only the economy (our X3 running average is 6.7l/100kms....about 41mpg since new) but also the torque characteristics better suit the nature of the car.
Sounds as though you are rightly delighted, Garry

Also hoping the Beetle is as good as we hope it will be.

It would be the Beetle for me, decent build quality and reliable.
When I was bound apprentice in famous Lincolnshire,
Full well I serv'd my master, for more than seven year,
Till I took up to poaching, as you shall quickly hear.
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shining night, in the season of the year.
