You can’t give her that, Neil. It’s quartz.

I've bought the lovely woman a watch for her last two presents. generally, she has everything she wants/needs- or she just buys something when she wants it, so Christmas and birthdays involve much head scratching and inventiveness.
Luckily last Christmas, she said she'd quite like a rose gold watch to mainly wear for work, so she is now the owner of a nice Skagen Freja two tone which is a stylish and classy little number, just like she is (she's not a watch head, so anything more than a fashion type watch would be lost on her)

For her birthday, I got her a Garmin running watch.

Unfortunately, she lost her mother a few years ago who she was very close to- followed by her father not a huge time later- which made her think about her own health, fitness and life in general. So about four years ago, we were outside in the cold as she huffed and puffed, running slowly across the short side of a football pitch. She's continued to work her lovely bottom off in the gym since that day and this year she completed a couple of 10k's and 3 half marathons!
From where she started, she's now a coupe of stone lighter, ten times more gorgeous (i didn't think she could get more gorgeous) and my all round amazing 'top bird!'

She frequently says that running helped keep her sane over the years since. While its not a mega rare, ultra expensive and much coveted timepiece to stir envy in all who see it, that little blob of plastic and led screen is a fantastic tool to track progress and set goals and help her stay focused, sane and happy!

As for buying me a watch- she has more sense  Apparently, I'm a nightmare to buy for so I'm just getting some money towards an as yet undecided wrist trinket in the new year
So many watches, yet still so little time!

i'm sure the most precious gifts never are (unless you're kanye west perhaps...!)
that's a great story of the garmin watch
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

I've got my Magrette MPP Kara due, probably, early in the New Year.

Will that count?

Might be an idea to choose another celeb- that man obviously has no idea of style, class and good taste...and that's without any mention of his wife

Ooh good idea!

I think it was £4 more than this £6 special.

Ah yes, but it may stop a couple of the other non WIS conversations we have: :)
Me - you haven't worn your other automatic watch for a while?
Mrs nbg - it's stopped!
Me - but you know how to set and wind it. Shall I go and get it for you?
Mrs nbg - no its ok don't bother, I will wear this one instead.

Or:
Me - do you normally wear your Datejust when you are gardening?
Mrs nbg - I am just trying to make sure it's fully wound.

Ah! But that has all the lower dial indeces flipped, so is absolutely acceptable.

The pink horror just has the 4 and 5 flipped for some reason. The 7 and 8 are as per normal. Rather bizarre.
