Any Cribbage players out there ?

Post by magicman »

Hello there

I've been playing cribbage for a while, but as I only play a computer, it's hard to gauge, what level of a player I am.

Today I was dealt a hand, and I couldn't work out how to play it.

I ended up putting a 4 and a 6 in my crib, what is the correct play here ?

I also screen shotted my opponents hand, as it was a belter.
And finally, the crib itself, as it got me to 121 for the win.
Quite a finish.

Regards Steve

I might have put the 2 fours in my own crib, but there's no right and wrong. Dropping the 4 and 6 must have been the best outcome for you all round as the 5 caught both your band and the crib.

Are computer hands always so extreme? The max of 28 (well 29, with the right jack) is so rarely seen, and the 5 improved all the hands, even though there was only one court card in play. There's a lot of 24 hands, but not so many 28s.

There's a lot of hands a 5 doesn't actually improve, despite it generally being a valuable card to see.

I’ve played bridge regularly and competitively, but not recently. I tried to learn cribbage once, but never really got into it.

One of the best things used to be the local pub crib league, and the suppers afterwards. I expect they've died out now.

I could never keep up with the scoring in live games, the players I played, seem to talk faster than an Auctioneer, when tallying the hands.

Your hand had no combinations of 15 without help, so I also would have put the 4 and the 6 in the crib. Even though your opponent a 28, your hand ended up being very respectable. I'm rusty, but I see 15 two, 15 four, 15 six, and a triple run of 3 (for fifteen) makes twenty-one.

That's too bad, Cribbage is an ideal game to play over an ale or two.
