Just throwing this out there if anyone is interested.
Some of you may know that our 15 year old has Hemiplegia Cerebral Palsy, but he also plays the cornet (among other instruments) and will be playing in the LSO On Track orchestra this Saturday in Trafalger Square.
It's a free open air concert as part of the BMW Classics series. It kicks off at 5pm with Simon Rattle conducting and our lad will be playing with the On Track orchestra about 5.30.
More details here:
https://lso.co.uk/whats-on/icalrepeat.d ... -2022.html
It's also being streamed on the LSO You Tube channel and should be available afterwards as well:

I'm sure there are a million better things to do on a Saturday afternoon, but there are also infinitely worse things

John, thanks for sharing this - it looks wonderful and I hope the sun shines. Huge congrats to your son for having what it takes and doing what it took.
Bruch's Kol Nidrei is amazing - every time I play the du Pré recording of that I well up.
There are one or two "classical" music fans here.

I quite like like Classical Music but generally would classify myself as a 'Light Weight' & casual listener, usually to Classic FM on and off during the day.
Thanks for the heads up on Sunday's Concert John and I sincerely trust all goes well for your Son.

Wonderful news about your son! How exciting for him. I’m a classical music fan, but am very much a novice, if even that. I know enough to have an appreciation and sound like an expert tithe unwashed, but I probably would be lost in a conversation with Steve. It'sAliveJim wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 12:13 pm Just throwing this out there if anyone is interested.

My tastes run towards Berlioz and the like.

Re: Any classical music fans?
^^^ To be fair, what is actually "Classical" music in the strict sense (Haydn/Mozart through to Beethoven/Schubert &c.) leaves me stone cold...dull, dull, and very dull! Too much exposure from the likes of CFM - a bit like the watch influencers on YT (usual suspects, "tell them what they want").
Things improved a bit (a lot, actually) when Wagner, Brahms &c. got going later in the 19th century (Romantic, musical equivalent of Pre-Raph) and I love some of the 20th century music - Vaughan Williams, Bernstein and a few others are right up there!
My real passion, however, is choral music, especially the mediaeval (development from plainchant) and Renaissance stuff - right through to the end of the Baroque, c. 1750 (end of the Bach/Handel era). After that I completely switch off for about 100 years!

Re: Any classical music fans?
Well first off, John, a HUGE congrats to your son. That is a fantastic achievement. And quite something with an orchestra led by a luminary like Simon Rattle too! That time slot is about 2.30am here...
Personally I have VERY wide taste in music, and in the "classical" area I have no real preference for period. Good is good, although I listen more to modern forms of jazz.

Best wishes to your son and the On Track orchestra for Saturday. That’s got to be one of the best venues in the country! And the conductor’s not bad either
