My brother in law is currently having a new kitch fitted and when he was doing the VR demo the company suggested that a lot of the well to do are now having two dishwashers so that you never have to unload it. You just take the clean plate, use it then put it in the ‘dirty’ machine. Some people have too much money.

^^^^^^ that’s ridiculous, first you can’t send kids up chimneys, now you can’t even make them unload the dishwasher. What’s next?

What’s a chap to do? Cook can’t manage on her own these days. Nell the scullery maid is a good girl, but her work has rather gorn orff since she’s been making doe-eyes at Salvatore the gardener. He, of course, is always hanging around Georgina the stable girl. I need Wilkins to have a word with them if he can keep his nose out of my vintage Fonseca.exHowfener wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:59 pmNew kitchen 12 months ago and I don't even have one! Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
Freecycle is great for all things kitchen gizmo! Got a (barely used) breadmaker on there a while ago and haven't looked back. Russell Hobbs 23620 - a classic, with rave reviews all over the internet, nearly 5,000 ratings on Amazon and it's only ~£60 new even.
Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
I decided we needed an air fryer during the covid lockdown. That was the first time I had heard about them.
In the end I didn’t bother, having decided that I don’t need one. Hopefully this thread will not change my mind.
Bread makers?
We bought a Panasonic over 20 years ago and it is still going strong.
I looked in a kitchen cabinet a couple of days ago and remembered we had a pasta roller and ravioli maker, that haven’t been used for about 15 years. I think I need to give pasta making another go.

Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
Funny, isn’t it, Neil. We buy these things, they’re going to change our lives, then somehow they don’t. I’m an air fryer convert but still learning.
I do rely on the bread maker, because I don’t like second rate supermarket stuff or the price of “artisan” bread at the deli. If I lived half a mile from a French boulangerie I would probably never make bread again!
I have one of those Breville toastie grills but hardly use it.
My best and favourite gizmo is my slow cooker which I use year-round. Tomorrow I’m out walking and when I get home there will be a perfect one-pot Greek lamb shank with potatoes ready to eat.

Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
Shout out for a new cooker.
HOTPOINT Multiflow HDT67V9H2CX 60 cm Electric Ceramic Cooker - Inox
I think this is the one. It was £40 less a couple of weeks ago, when we got it. We're really enjoying it. The only negative point is that it doesn't have a countdown timer. Eg set it to 14 minutes for perfect hard boiled eggs. It does have programmed timers for each oven, and you can synch them to finish together I think. I doubt we'll use that feature though. Super cooker.
My wife still says it's not a Christmas present.
Re The Air Fryer. Amazon say it's being delivered on Wednesday now which is 2 days early.

Some people are so ungrateful ...My wife still says it's not a Christmas present.
Of course, YOUR Christmas present will probably be a lawnmower or something similar

Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
Well, we used the Air Fryer yesterday and today and couldn't be more impressed.
What's also impressive is the amount of food you can fit in relatively small compartments. Did some chicken pieces and chips in separate compartments, and they hardly made a dent in the enclosures. I can see we need a couple of the little racks to multi task.
I think we're in danger of over eating!

Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
When I 1st heard the term 'Air Fryer' I thought, here's something that's been invented to solve a problem that doesn't exist and just another fad.
We stayed at a friends one evening and in the morning he did an Air-fry-up with everything but the beans done in the fryer. Was almost converted overnight!
Our Gert had some well-known supermarket vouchers so I purchased a Tower twin drawer air fryer, loads of preset modes, cooks at different temp/times but can be set to finish at same time.
Had it for approx 2 years now and I use it almost everyday and cook everything from steak, chicken, roast dinner, chips, jacket potatoes, shepherds pie etc etc. easy and a huge reduction in cooking time
Living in a rural location with no mains gas, I use a camping stove for boiling veg, potatoes and pasta
I am also a big fan of the slow cooker, chuck it in and leave it while I do chores, go for a walk to the pub and come back to tea
Completely converted, so much so that I no longer have a conventional oven!

Re: Air fryers, bread makers etc.
I remember when first hearing about them it was all about quickly cooking chips (fries!), and if anything that original marketing and the term 'air fryer' really does them a disservice - it's the simplicity and versatility of them that's totally blown me away! I'll need to dig out a few recipes and pictures for the thread as I've made some great stuff in mine over the last year or so.
On the subject of slow-cookers, I completely agree - we had an old 'crockpot' for years that I'd use all the time, but it was replaced a few years ago by a gift from my mum of a 'clever chef' - I think she'd picked it up via some home shopping channel or something.
Pic below, but the way I look at it, it's essentially a 'smart' and more versatile slow cooker - for example it's got a setting to quickly saute ingredients, before then switching to other settings to slow cook / make soup etc.
I use it quite a lot to make soups or to slow cook things like chilli - it's nice being able to set it to cook for 3-4 hours, after which time it'll switch itself into a 'keep warm' mode. Supposedly you can bake cakes / bread in it, but haven't tried that...I'd probably use the air fryer for those!
Of course if I'm making chilli, that usually also means making rice, which means getting the rice cooker out...
