My sincere condolences, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

I was my mother's carer for the last few years of her life. She was the most independent little (5" at her tallest, earlier in life) soul and so stubbornly brave that in her late 70s/early 80s she battled her way through two knee replacements, a mastectomy and treatment for breast cancer, and a triple heart bypass.

Her final stay in hospital was caused by pneumonia (my GP told me it's often called the old people's friend in medical circles because it generally causes a peaceful passing). On the night she died, I needed to leave her earlier than usual for reasons that were entirely selfish and I received the call from the hospital in the early hours of the next morning. I got there just 15 minutes too late.

I found your opening post very touching, in part because of the memories it brought back. Thank you for sharing and I will keep you in my thoughts. It might not happen straight away but eventually you'll be able to recall little things about your mother that made you laugh and you'll be able to laugh about these things with others. When that happened in my family, we knew we were healing from the loss.
I am not a collector of watches. I used to be able to say that and know I was telling the truth.

Been meaning to post this for a few days, a very poignant and thoughtful blues song, superbly played by one of my favourite artists (apologies for the indulgence), with the opening lyrics of;-

"If I get to heaven, the first thing I'll do, before I meet my maker, I'm gonna ask around for you"

Additionally, and with relevance to many of us (more than I thought) who've experienced cancer, there's support to Breast Cancer Research for downloading the album (worth doing even if you've, like me, got it already).

God bless all. [-o<
