Re: A pop of colour...
Nobody has talked about adding a pop of color to a flat watch with a strap choice…

Re: A pop of colour...
Nope - it's just lovely. Skinny colour pops and an asymmetrical smattering of colour between the subdials

Re: A pop of colour...
My favourite is red. Of the five that I posted four had a bit of red and one orange. I don’t think that any of the four would have been improved by switching the red to orange, yellow or blue.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 9:16 am I’m just wondering whether people have a favourite colour for “pops”?
My experience is a bit limited, but I’ve had two CW GMTs with orange GMT hands and highlights against a black dial. I’ve looked at similar set-ups with red and yellow and find that I don’t like them as well. Perhaps it’s just what I’m used to.
I think the use of red is far more subtle than orange, which to me always seems a bit flippant. Probably why I like it on the Milgauss, as for me it’s not a watch to take seriously.
I do though think there is perhaps a small subconscious element at play - familiarity with what we are used to on particular models.
With the blank canvas of the C63 FLE I don’t recall any discussion about the colour to use for small elements of colour alongside the black and white dial. It was clear cut to all of us that we wanted to use red, rather than orange. Perhaps because the dial was more dressy looking than the vibe of a tool watch.
I find it hard to imagine that a 1665 DRSD would have become such a sought after vintage model amongst collectors, had it been a 1665 DOSD or 1665 DYSD.

Yellow really does stand out against black or grey/titanium...

Light blue on this one. Lovely .
(I can't get this watch out of my head. I think it's beautiful, striking, quirky, space-agey. But a reviewer has just called out for me what's quirky about it - no hour markers
Could I wrap my head round a tool watch with a dress dial?? ....

Re: A pop of colour...
Interesting thoughts, Neil. As usual, I don’t see right or wrong here, just individual tastes. I take your point about orange perhaps being more flippant, but when the Sealander GMT came along I was looking at the Mediterranean opening up for tourism again, and it seemed a perfect choice for beach holidays in Greece! Definitely nothing formal required there.nbg wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 4:10 pm

I saw what you did with the Rolex codes, but it wasn’t difficult to work out!

^^^ I have to admit that I had to look up the reference number of the Sea-Dweller, as it isn’t one that is ever likely to make its way to my watch box.
I think that the orange works well on the C63 GMT, regardless of the colour of the dial. But doesn’t work on any of the C63 three handers. Go figure.

Talking of light blue, I do like the colour of the indices on the Metris. Although they’re large Arabics, the colour does allow them to blend better into the dial and allow full prominence to the pointer.

This has me thinking about my Ombré. I just put in an order for the Black/Orange Hybrid strap which I think will look good on both the Ombré and the PO

Although I love a pop of colour, ironically it's the orange pop that's held me back from purchasing one of these:

I’ve always enjoyed the yellow highlights on the Marloe Solent. The second hand and outer ring are lovely, but the real highlight is the ring under the chapter ring which is recessed and only visible from an angle.

I've long admired the red 12 and small seconds on a C9 2011 FLE

The watch has even become know affectionately in Forum circles as Red 12.

Just got my orange hybrid strap in. Looks great on the Ombre. I think it will look good on the PO too.
