I was going to set up this thread by saying that I think watches -more often than not - don't need added pops of colour. In the case of the 12X I'd say that's absolutely what I think. The watch has so much texture and depth and contrast and visual interest that I think it would be spoiled by a wee pop of colour. OK - it would ruin the watch for me...
A pop of colour...

Re: A pop of colour...
A perfect analogy!

And I have to concede about the Sinn 556. It's been troubling me for years. I always always figured I'd get a 556 one day - and I still haven't done it...
Could the reason be that my mind is just needing a pop of colour???

Re: A pop of colour...
This is a really interesting thread. I sit on the other side of the fence, often for me it’s the little pops of colour that can really make a watch stand out for me.
An example is this Redcliff from Fears, a watch that I keep talking myself out of. The light blue second hand and highlights really make this watch for me. Similarly whilst I love the white Sealander three hand in both 36mm and 39mm, it’s the orange accents on the larger watch that really appeal to me.
An interesting debate, for sure.

Completely unnecessary but that's not to say a splash of colour doesn't also work:

Re: A pop of colour...
I owned both, and would still have had the 39mm - if it DIDN'T have the orange pops

Re: A pop of colour...
That is a most excellent example of brilliant colour pops. I really love yellow pops - presumably because red and orange are more common

I was looking longingly at the CW C65 trident GMT worldtimer that's in the Ward Hosrd at the moment. Lovely use of yellow and makes for a mellower but friendlier watch than red or orange imo

Absolutely right, and it looks great on your watch. The orange chronograph seconds reminds me of another Omega, the Genève Chronostop.sproughton wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:40 am Completely unnecessary but that's not to say a splash of colour doesn't also work:

As ever with chronographs I'd far rather that orange seconds hand was moving!

I believe it was fairly common practice to keep it running. It was only a 60-second timer, as you see, so of relatively limited use as a true chronograph. Nice watches, though, I nearly bought one back when I had vintageitis.

^^^ I would keep it running too
I've been looking at the Oris Chronoris recently - similar style, though not a 60s timer, and orange pops that I definitely love

Re: A pop of colour...
I've had a look through some photos, and the pop of colour is used less frequently than you would expect.
I love the red details on this Berny version of the railway watch.
I also love the contracting hand colours on my Davidoff, although it's hard to avoid the flare from the sun on the dial.

Re: A pop of colour...
Definitely agree a pop of colour can be the icing on the cake with some watches. The Trident benefits from the orange second hand tip plus text
