A poll because I’m just curious

Post by missF »

There are a lot of Cartier santos around the watchie places I watch, and I was wondering today whether the santos owners have other watches in their collections with Roman numerals or not.

I thought I’d just ask here first

I hadn't thought about it much until Sebastien Muller at Brellum offered me an LE few years back.

"But Sebastien I don't like roman numerals"

"But Pete it's this year's LE".

"And Sebastien I have a grey dialled 7750 chrono already...."

I have one, a Hamilton quartz I received for graduation from high school. It’s lovely.

I once visited Rome and tried to order a beer in a bar. I can’t speak Italian so I pointed to the beer tap, held up two fingers and the barman served me 5 pints……

It's a no from me. I keep looking at the jumping hour watches with Roman numerals as there have been a few for sale recently but they are a bit dressy for me.

My wife has a cheap quartz rectangular watch which has Roman numerals at XII, III, VI and IX, can't find any branding on it to work out who made it.

A couple of pics, from 2014(!), of my only one. It's a big watch, known in English as, erm, Big Mechanical - sounds better in French. My only hand wind as well.

I wasn’t sure, so I checked a few pics!

1 with Romans at 6 and 12.

1 with Romans at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.

1 with Romans for every hour except 6.

I don’t wear any of them very often.

This is a lovely watch and could see me owning one, but only if it had a chance amongst the others of being worn as an everyday watch and not just an occasional dress watch. So I think I’m a one only person. At a push.

Not being a Cartier Santos owner, I'm not sure I qualify to answer the question. :-k :-k

Nevertheless, I've got three CWs with Roman Numerals in my collection at the moment. 2 x C900 SPCs and a C1 Russell.

I’m not a huge fan of watches with Roman numerals, but I make an exception

Not a watch that I own, far too spendy for me. However I think that this is the best looking of any Roman numeral dial watch that I have ever tried on.

can't do it. not dissing it as an option for others, but roman numerals make a dial feel too busy to me. and overly formal.

As a renowned Santos 'fence-sitter' :) .....no not yet. And the price in Oz now says it's moved out of my price comfort zone now anyway.
And one of the issues has been the busy-ness of an all-Romans dial.

As ever, never say never to a Romans dial but I do prefer them as Romans - batons alternates. I think I'd like one like that although it's about the watch not the Romans.
