A new watch, but what is it…

Post by nbg »

:)

I have put this here, rather than general discussion or other brands, to reduce clues on what it may be.

A while back an esteemed forum member noted we seemed to have less of this type of “guess what watch I have bought” thread, than was formerly the case. I thought that I would buck the trend.

With that in mind…

I have just bought a watch.

Your task, should you accept is to guess the brand and model. My previous posts, indicate the type of watch that I tend to favour.

A few clues to start…

1) The watch I have bought was apparently designed with a particular purpose In mind.
2) I am unlikely to be wearing the watch in such circumstances. If I did I would likely have difficulty convincing Mrs nbg to join me in such an endeavour.
3) Most of my watches are mainstream, although sometimes I do go off piste.

Any ideas fellow forumites?

Subject to guesses, I will add further clues as appropriate.

Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer.

1) Particular purpose - check
2) Are you likely to go to Mars? - Nope. Would Mrs nbg be keen if you did? - Perhaps not.
3) Mainstream brand for you but off piste choice within the brand.

My only reservation is the 45mm size which I'm not quite sure fits the bill.

^^^Ive handled that watch in the flesh and it is SUPER light. You don't even notice the diameter. They should have left the original X33 broad arrow hands though.

I have no idea what @nbg picked up

It would help if you posted more frequently in the daydreaming thread…..

However you did once say this
nbg wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 12:06 pm …. The reissue of the FOIS.

I rather like it, but don’t need it.
Designed for a specific purpose? Not spaceflight that it became associated with but was intended for motorsport.

Unlikely to wear it for its intended purpose and Mrs nbg wouldn’t join in if you did? I can’t see you and Mrs nbg becoming the next Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell.

Mainstream brand? Yes

Off piste? I suspect that’s a red herring to fool us.

@rkovars
Rich you were due to be referred to in a future clue… :)

4) IIRC there is more than one forumite who at some point potentially was out and about in situations implied in clue 2.
5) There are other versions with the same model name, that weren’t designed with the niche situation in mind.

@iain
Not the FOIS and off piste is not a red herring, albeit that the basic design (as opposed to specific feature) is not off piste.

I'm tussling with references to The Omega, a fish and skiing. Mmm, no I can't concentrate fully. Omega-3 oils come from mackerel and other fish bu otherwise I'm off-piste and off the hook.

It’s a Bremont Martin Baker but you’re not thinking of firing Mrs nbg out of an ejector seat.

Hmmmmm. It can't be the Adventurer because you have the original already!

Off the groomed trail and built for purpose........

Definitely not a diver.
Off trail and in the mountains.

It's got to be a Vacheron Everest!

Dam, you could be onto something there. :)

However unfortunately not an Overseas Everest.

Another clue. :)

I have been on a few of these…
BA36A7D2-D7A9-443A-9632-8BBD96DE4049.png
But not under full winter conditions, when the design of a particular aspect of the watch may possibly# be relevant.

# I say possibly, because it is in my view a bit of a stretch to think anyone would look at the dial and their surroundings to form a key judgement. Most would likely check a specialised report and their surroundings.

Been mulling this over since yesterday Neil and, for a while was trying to figure an Everest connection, but you steered us away from that, so I'm coming closer to home.

Moreover, I'm sticking in the 'affordable' price range.

Your clue today is either Lake District or Scotland, perhaps a route to a Munro which, with a play on words, leads into British brand Monroe and the place you are unlikely to go is the Arctic (albeit that's not really off piste - skiing).

We therefore get to the Monroe Adventure Arctic Bronze.

Is it the Monroe, the watch with the avalanche inclinometer dial?
