A Little Retirement Gift to Myself

Post by jkbarnes »

I’m celebrating my retirement with a new guitar. Unlike the C63 purchase in 2022, I told my wife about this one. It’s a PRS DGT SE, and it’s incredible. It’s a nice change from the Fenders I usually play.

Excellent retirement gift Drew. You just need the hat now and you can sit out all day under the tree in your new garden dreaming that you’re Carlos Santana. Aren’t PRS his preferred choice of guitar?

I love the bird fret markers and it looks very well made. Enjoy.

You couldn’t really not tell her, guitars are harder to hide under your shirt than watches. For most people at least.

I had to read up on the PRS DGT SE, Drew, as I know precious little about guitars, but that is cool.

I'm not sure when, how and what you'll be playing but I can envisage a warm summer's evening, veranda, Panama hat, cigar & whiskey, strumming some Blues.

Enjoy.

Guy

That sounds perfect, Guy!

Everything is preceding smoothly with all the houses. Right now it’s just the pressure of moving my wife out of hers (she closes on the 31st) and moving all our stuff into the new house. Then the challenge of making the house a home! #babysteps

The watch is on indefinite hold for now. Maybe to celebrate a grandchild at some point.

It’s quite nice, indeed! I think the PRS SE line is to guitars what CW is to luxury watches - incredible value for money! I’m amazed at the build quality.

It is indeed the brand Santana has been playing for many decades now. Sadly, my playing isn’t even close to Santana’s.

The bird inlays and finish sold me on this color-way. This model also comes in a gold top with moon inlays. This tobacco burst however…wow! And the birds are a PRS signature look.

Now, if only I was a quarter the player that David Grissom (the namesake of this model) is!

I think that's a good analogy! I had a PRS briefly quite a while back (mid 2000s?) when I was in a guitar flipping mood. I think I had it for about a week until a sweet sunburst Tele caught my attention  But I do remember the PRS playing SO easy. I always came back to a Strat though. And unlike my watches, I only ever had 1 electric guitar at a time!

grats! PRSs are great guitars. now you need a mesa boogie to complete the santana sound.

that said, i *almost* texted you a few months ago to say, "hey, you need to commission us to build you a custom retirement guitar."

That's gorgeous Drew! I genuinely think PRS are some of the best looking guitars around (I'm far from qualified to comment on sound or playability, but I know pretty when I see it! :fondof: )

Congratulations (on both the retirement and the gorgeous new guitar!)

My parents had a neighbor who had, at one point, a couple of PRS guitars that dated from when Paul was stilling selling them out of a van! He sold them when he had kids with no conception of the potential value!
