A favourite place near where you live.
Re: A favourite place near where you live.
Nice shots!
I live near Washington, DC. Lots of things there. But it's usually crowded. So we like to head to Deep Creek Lake: http://www.deepcreeklake.com/
But once a year we load up the dogs and head to Dewey Beach, Delaware for this: http://www.adopt-a-greyhound.org/dewey/

God bless you if you are an adopter of dogs. My wife and I currently have 5 rescue dogs and 1 cat. This is really our limit but we are suckers for the abused. The dogs range in age from 1 yr to 13 years. the cat is 6 yrs. We have always had rescues and will continue to for as long as our own health allows. They are literally our pet project.carman63 wrote:Nice shots!

In regards to favorite spots. I am totally at ease on any golf course. It is a passion that brings me total peace. My wife on the other hand loves to shop. That said, we both love taking the dogs to the ocean and watching them run.

We foster greyhounds when we can, and I've worked on and off with cat rescue groups for many years. Both of our dogs are retired racers (our first and fourth fosters). The cats were also fosters. We joke that one of our greyhounds 'picked' the second cat out.Kip wrote:God bless you if you are an adopter of dogs. My wife and I currently have 5 rescue dogs and 1 cat. Rescue animals are usually the best pets (for me) and it's a rewarding hobby.

Re: A favourite place near where you live.
I agree. They really do make great pets. They are so thankful and loyal. It hurts us deeply when we take senior dogs, only to have them for such a short time. We take solace in the fact that we are making their final days better than the alternatives. We always keep room for at least one senior.carman63 wrote: Rescue animals are usually the best pets (for me) and it's a rewarding hobby.

As long as the dogs are up for it, we put every one through formal training, from basic through off leash programs, regardless of age. The amount is based on their abilities age and type needed.El Tiempo wrote:Kip, are you "pack leader?" Have you Caesar Milan'd your dogs?

ps: We are really the ones being trained here. I guess we need it.

We quite like to go walking around Leith Hill, near Dorking in Surrey when the weather is nice
If you go up the tower, you can see for miles.
A few pics....

Gatwick airport in the distance....

The walk through the woods up to the tower...

Very pleasant place to go spend an afternoon in the sun

Tough one...
From Scotland, the homeland it would probably be Loch Lomond, as it as five minutes from my home.
From America, Hocking Hills just south of Columbus Ohio was a particular favourite of mine.
From Switzerland, too many to mention but Rapperswill at the end of the Zurichsee was lovely.
And from my new home in Australia it is probably the Swan Valley Wineries, just fabulous...

When I lived in the Irish Republic it was the view from outside our bungalow of about 5 miles of valley before seeing the glorious Macgillycuddy's Reek range of mountains. Another favourite is Cape Reinga at the top of the North island of New Zealand. To look down at the beach which is sacred to Maoris and see not a footstep in the sand whilst you can see the Tasman Sea and the Pacific ocean meet (they are two different colours) is truly amazing.

Re: A favourite place near where you live.
In Australia my favourite place definately has to be underwater, on anyone of the numerous reefs on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Land based, I would sway towards a view down to Jindabyne in the snowy mountains of NSW.
In Scotland, it has to be either Glencoe or looking out across the water from Applecross in Wester Ross.
There are plenty of other places worldwide that I could list here, but all places will merit mixed opinions from Forum members

10 minutes driving-distance from where I live there is a lot of heathery (is that an English word?) nature:

It's a great place to teach my son how to take pictures:
