10 Years Later
10 Years Later
It would appear that 1st March 2015 was a date of little significance. I've checked the internet and can't seem to find anything notable that happened on that day. However despite nothing important actually happening, it seems that a new user called iain joining the CW forum still didn't make any news bulletins and appeared to happen completely unnoticed.
Now it's nearly 10 years to the day I can see why. the contributions from iain to the CW forum may have raised the odd smile, or generated a smattering of interest to a small handful of people, but otherwise probably haven't really contributed much in the grand scheme of things.
Over the last 10 years members of the forum have come and gone. Some of those who leave I may not notice immediately but then realise after some time that they don't post anymore. Sometimes this is for the best, but in almost all cases the forum is poorer without their contributions.
CW seems to have grown up as a brand over my time here, however my watch journey has taken me down a different road and I no longer own any.
I seem to recall that CW may have gone through some logo changes during my time here as well, but to be honest I've tried to blank the memory of all the drama from my mind.
Forums in general seem to be dying out. With the rise in social media and the many watch groups that now populate facebook and the like, it does often surprise me that the CW forum continues to thrive. Long may this continue.
Anyway, I'll have my slice of birthday cake tomorrow and think about how I can continue my (worthy?) contribution for another 10 years. Assuming I've not outstayed my welcome.
Thanks to everyone who contributes here for making the forum the place it is and the place I seem to come back to over and over again.

Re: 10 Years Later
Congrats on 10 years, @iain , though I note from your history that you were a lurker for the first three!
Anyway, no matter, you are a stalwart member of this community. Like the forum itself, you are about much more than just watches (even of the Apple sanitaryware variety), and you even understand good old-fashioned banter! Definitely a rare breed.

Re: 10 Years Later
Ten years, is that all?
I enjoy reading your posts and I even like your sense of humour. I have forgiven you for abandoning my favourite brand, after dipping a tentative toe in the water.
Mrs nbg thanks you for suggesting that pub in York, as despite her initial reservations, when I dragged her in there, she liked the pie and mash.
Long may the forum continue, a much preferred medium to facepalm social media, in my view.
If you want to rejoin the CW club, may I recommend a Bel Canto…

Congratulations / Commisserations @iain - I bet that time has flown by!
I love a good forum, you get a different kind of chat here versus the various social media places so hope they'll continue for a long time yet (I would love some more modern software here though
)
As with many things in life it's the people that make the place, and while members come and go I think the longevity of the CW forum is absolutely down to the quality of the core members that bring this place to life, which is a roundabout way to say your ten years of service have been worthwhile
...so congratulations again, and here's to the next 10 years!

Congratulations on your 10 Years!!
You certainly have seen some changes and some spats along the way. Hopefully you have learned something during your time here as well.
We have enjoyed having you.

Re: 10 Years Later
Congratulations on your first ten years @iain I enjoy your company on the forum - it would be less of a place here without you. It's good to have an IWC man on the forum - the forum has always been a place of genuine watch enthusiasts rather than gushy CW fanboys and girls and it's good to stop CW from becoming complacent I reckon
For me, your journey towards your Ingénieur has mapped a journey that others have taken including me - how to find the watch that fits best on your wrist - and not just in terms of L2L distance and how much micro adjust is available on the bracelet. The best watch is the one that feels comfortable in terms of who you are, what you love and value, and how you choose to represent yourself in the world. Good job well done
Oh - and you do it with fun too. It's just as well for everyone

Is this another job title for your extensive CV? Linguist, teacher, travel writer, theatre lighting technician, and now stalker!Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 10:15 am ……..though I note from your history that you were a lurker for the first three!![]()

Or did you just remember that fact from my original intro post?

That made me smile, thanks….

I suppose someone has to….

I wouldn’t say abandoned, I have certainly gained a great appreciation for them having dipped that toe.
The pub I recommended for the character, uniqueness and beer selection, Mrs nbg’s take away memory was the food?

I tried one on at the Manchester watch show, I’m afraid it didn’t hit the right note…..

Thanks Lindsey, I think you’ve summed this up very well.

@iain I did look for your first post; they’re often fun to quote when someone celebrates a milestone. I immediately noticed you had been dormant for 3 years. Nothing more sinister.

Re: 10 Years Later
Congrats on your decennary
I enjoy reading your frequent contributions and thank you, sir, for helping to maintain decorum on here, as opposed to what we see all too often on other social media platforms.
Have you been keeping an eye out for Apiar's latest releases? I seem to recall you were quite taken, as was I, with their design philosophy, when they exhibited at the Mcr Watch Show.

CW watch count - enough to keep me very happy, but always room for more!
Re: 10 Years Later
I have signed up the their emails and have been watching what they are doing. I do think their designs are still a little ‘out there’ for my tastes but the engineering is great.Tonywalker wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 10:54 am Have you been keeping an eye out for Apiar's latest releases?
