I have been so torn about getting the bracelet for my Trident Pro 300 or just keeping it as a "strap" watch.
Yes; is my understanding of Mike France's opening sentence;-

With the recent application of a total of 31% tariffs on Swiss watch imports into your country – 10% has already been applied, the balance of 21% is planned to be effective from Wednesday 9th April

I am fairly certain that the bracelets and cases country of origin is China. That changes the calculation I think. I am not completely certain which Chinese tariffs are on and which are off and where the 10% falls in. I am fairly certain de minimis for China and Hong Kong doesn't expire until May 2nd though.

That makes more sense because at checkout I did not yet see a "tariff upcharge".

Would it work if UK residents bought and then ship to US members?
Do tariffs apply to non business transactions?

Yes they do. Gifts are exempt under $100. Over $100 is charged as if it was over $800 (meaning de minimis is waived). This was true before all of the new stuff.

Thanks for clarification, solves that option.

Of course, going this route, one has to now consider VAT in the equation.

Why would they (I presume you mean CW) lower their prices?

If the high 31% tariff has been paused for 90 days, but the 10% baseline still applies, I would expect CW will continue to charge the same (baseline) price to which is then added 20% VAT if the buyer is in the UK or EU or . . .

. . will, for a USA buyer, continue to charge the same (baseline) price to which is then added Federal Duty, State Sales Tax (as before under the Delivery Duty Paid scheme) and baseline 10% tariff i.e. your watch will be only 10% more expensive than it was last week, but still cheaper than for a UK/EU buyer.

CW will not lower prices simply because they didn't raise them. All they have done is add on the appropriate tariff that needed to be collected. I am certain that they will quickly readjust to the latest news and guidelines when rates are confirmed.

Below is a follow up email that will be sent to the CW American database. The website(s) should be updated shortly to reflect the updated tariffs for USA shipments.

Dear American friend,

As you know, the additional 21% tariff imposed on goods imported into the United States from Switzerland on Wednesday morning, was rescinded by the evening – for at least 90 days.

We obviously welcome this news, and our website already reflects the change at the checkout.

As a gesture of goodwill, we will absorb the extra cost for anyone whose watch purchase was shipped to the US during the brief period the higher tariff was in effect.

I think it may have been Confucius who said. ‘we live in interesting times.’ He really didn’t know the half of it!

Best wishes,
Mike

I was thinking about purchasing a watch here in the states but I noticed that the custom and duties is around 18.5% for the C60 Trident 300. Is this expected?

Yes; based on the statements above, and the extensive discussion in our US tariffs and how they may affect CW topic / thread, whilst you don't say which state / city in the USA you're in (Sales Tax varies by state / city, I understand) . . . . .

. . . base line 10% import tariff plus 8.5% State Sales Tax + Federal Duty = 18.5%; sounds about right.

Hope your purchase goes well. Image Image
