I agree. When you see the Rolex crown, the text is always below. I was simply raising the point that while many non-watch people know what Rolex do, I don't believe that many (any?) non-watch people know what CW do. So helping them understand might be a way to maximise the benefit from the spend on sponsorship. Still, I don't work in marketing so what do I know?Some of that falls on CW doesn't it? I mean you see the Rolex crown all over sporting events and everyone knows what that means because of the work Rolex put in to make it that way. I see this as only a single piece in the overall picture and not the sole solution.

They are legion, but as an opener…stoning the Man City team bus 2 seasons ago as it arrived at Anfield, attempting to set fire to the Liver Buildings (owned by Everton’s chairman) during celebrations at the Pier Head. Rioting at the Athens ECL final, illegally flooding into the stadium and stealing tickets from their own fans. UEFA labelled them the ‘worst fans in Europe’ shortly after this…then there was Heysel.
My best mate is a staunch red…he’ll never travel to see them again in a final…he got tear-gassed in Paris but stated that the behaviour of many LFC fans was disgraceful.

Many clubs have had their issues with fans, especially when going back 37 years to a different time, and in my view football is now a family event and the experience of the 80s are thankfully well behind us. There is much documented around Heysel and facts exists, with a tragedy, deaths and convictions of a number involved. Liverpool will always accept blame for this and whilst there is some context for the events of that day, that is not an excuse. It will not be forgotten and the anniversary was recently marked at the UCL final by the club. Hopefully it won't be used as reference to malign the modern fanbase for another 30 years as most won't have been born when it happened.
I won't go through every incident but it is my understanding the reported attempting to set fire to the Liver building was basically a flare that was fired into the air at the building where celebrations were taking place. It landed on an external balcony and some Astroturf caught fire and was extinguished. The idiot amongst thousands of fans was questioned by police.
I attended the UCL in Paris in May and can honestly say that the behaviour of the 99% of fans that I saw was exemplary and in fact it was this behaviour that likely prevented a tragedy. The calmness in the face of the events and the compassion for others shown was something to be proud of. The mis-management was diabolical, policing was attempting to provoke confrontation (which they did not get) and the subsequent false narrative from the French authorities was highly political. The large groups causing trouble around the ground were local youths from suburbs of Paris who have constant battles with police. This is just a symbol of some of the current issues in France.
No set of fans are perfect. For every bad individual amongst them there are hundreds of others who are great people. This goes for Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Chelsea...There will also be different perceptions, sometimes tribal, sometimes not.
Good luck to CW and the Everton partnership, maybe more clubs will follow, maybe even Liverpool in many years to come.

This clown was also charged with other ‘flare’ related instances that night. The interesting aside is that a main LFC fanzine published a picture of a young Everton fan and stated that he was the real culprit (he bore a passing resemblance to the real offender.) The young Everton fan was a local grammar school boy, whom I know, who was at home at the time. The social media bullying and abuse this kid got went on for weeks…all completely unfounded of course, but that seems to be the M.O. of some LFC fans. Incidentally, LFC demand that they never play games on the anniversary of Hillsborough…they held their open topped bus parade through the city on the anniversary of Heysel, which was widely criticised even by their own former players. Not for no reason is the moniker ‘offended by everything, ashamed of nothing’ attached to them.

Maybe CW will move into golf at some point to liven things up?
The CW logo and name side by side is on the Everton site now along with the other sponsors.
Maybe too big for the dial with that set up but it does look good as a whole so the Swish only is unlikely to appear around the ground with people wondering what it means.
