Re: C8 release update

Post by andyfry »

I was away at the end of last week but was very pleased to find on my return a nice little (and satisfyingly heavy) package from CWL with a lovely hand written welcome from Wera. (Wera you are really a star and thank you so very much - it was really touching and such a lovely welcome to the world of CWL (and after all the stir I created)).

I am very happy to report that I am now the proud owner of my C8-IPK. :D

I hope to post a full review when I get a chance and indeed when I have had the watch a little longer to get better acquainted (that said it has not left my wrist during the day since the weekend and am indeed loathed to remove at night!

Early impressions are:

Indeed it is a big watch, but one that sits perfectly on my wrist and looks great.

The strap is correspondingly lengthy but this is just great for me as I have chunky wrists - even so on the second to smallest hole. However, do find that the butterfly clasp does dig into my wrist a little. Wonder if the buttons you depress to release the catch could have been repositioned a little off the wrist or made a little smaller? (A minor niggle.) On reflection the studs on the strap and the clasp might have looked better in a matching black (as had been hinted at in the thread above) so that the metaphorical horological collars and cuffs match (just a comment for reflection upon).

The movement is very smooth and so far keeping better than expected time, losing just 5 seconds in the time since first being set at 9:00am on Saturday morning (so approximately 85 hours) - in the same time my Omega Seamaster 300m Chronometer has lost 20 seconds. So very impressed.

The finish is superb and really looks and feels solid. The watch is satisfyingly heavy on the wrist.

Two minor observations on the spec compared to that indicated in the owners manual : the crown is not a screw-in one and the watch glass is flat rather than convex (too early to say whether or not this distracts from clear readability).

Two further minor and very personal observations: the numerals in the date window appears to be offset a little too far to the centre of the watch as to slightly obscure the upper and lower parts of the leading digit on a double figure date. (The photo on the webpage seems more centred and thus more visible and visually pleasing). And finally for this first impressions report I seem to remember in the pictures in my mind that the RAF like "roundel" on the second hand being blue, white and red rather than just blue and red and so looked more like the RAF roundel. Not that this at all detracts from the beauty of the watch.

These observations are my personal experiences of a fine watch and I do not want to give the impression that I am in any which way complaining - I most certainly am not.
