Re: The Wonderful World of English
Properly, is a clearly a matter of opinion. :) What is known as a biscuit in the US and Canada is what the rest of us refer to as either as a scone or a scone. I was mortified on one of my trips to North America to see someone spooning what appeared to be porridge onto a couple of scones at breakfa...

Re: Non CW of the Day
Got a new Delugs cordovan strap for this Oris. Still not feeling it. Have an OEM bracelet on order, but if that doesn’t land the plane for me I’m selling this guy. 1D898CE3-899F-483E-8827-80D910917524.jpeg This is like a stealth watch. At first glance it flies under the radar, but then you get up c...

Re: The "what watch are you day dreaming about now" thread
You mentioned you might be reluctant to wear something like a JLC… but you do talk a lot about your dream watch being a reverso! Do you think maybe if you got this instead of a JLC you’d feel at least a little disappointed? Unfulfilled? That’s a reasonable question, and I can confidently say no. Wh...

..and the new Sector Tanks (Dolcevitas)? ....if I were you, I would go for the Longines Dolcevita over the Hammy Boulton I’ve got to give a shout out to Chuck (Thunder1) for turning me on to the Longines Dolcevita. I emailed him to see if he had or knew much about the Hamilton Boulton, since he has...

Re: New Atoll Special Edition
I wonder if they are re-thinking that 350 number? They have a real hit on their hands, probably much more-so than the Aquitaine series. Sent from my Galaxy S20 using Tapatalk I sometimes wonder if some of these LEs are about testing the waters. I wonder to what extend this LE was a preview of some ...

Is it the spelling or the word choice? The doubled consonant at the end of a word in the past tense still flummoxes me sometimes.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 5:52 am I could tell you were American from one word (traveled). Which brings me on to…

Re: The Wonderful World of English
I can assure you the usage was not intended to be condescending, and certainly not pejorative. Used in speech to express surprise it says, old fashioned. That's me pretty much. "(Upon) my word" would have sufficed, meaning much the same. I doubt we would say "bless your heart" h...
