To answer your question:golfjunky wrote:That’s why I put a ‘?’ At the end so he can explain it to me
Dad and daughter visit No:1.
Dad looking a buying a C60.
Dad buys a C60.
Dad asks nice man if anything else is tucked away.
Nice man says, “I will find out”.
Mr CW comes back with said watch.
Daughter says, “that’s beautiful, I love the colour”.
Mr CW kindly offers the watch at a very generous price.
Daughter’s face lights up.
Dad buys the watch and all are happy.
I’m thinking the connection is, a fabulous day spent with my daughter.

^^^^ I think that is perhaps more of a connection, than most of us have to being an astronaut, or involved in some way to the space program, re. considered ownership of a “Moonwatch”.

^^^are you saying, that my wife shouldn't buy me a speedmaster moonwatch next year, even though I just happen to be born in 1969 ?
But back on subject, I think a smart watch is imminent...then one could just download whichever face and logo combo is desired.

Re: WILD SPECULATION - just for fun.
I see your point Neil but I didn’t buy my Speedmaster because of the moon connection I bought it because I like the look of it. And iirc that DBR watch has a less expensive normal non scrap metal version so why not just get that?

Re: WILD SPECULATION - just for fun.
I think the answer to that lies in the fact that Richard hadn’t planned to buy one until his daughter saw this particular one, which just so happened to be a “special” and was offered at a great price?golfjunky wrote:And iirc that DBR watch has a less expensive normal non scrap metal version so why not just get that?
Steve.
Re: WILD SPECULATION - just for fun.
For the same reason you didn’t “just get” a Speedmaster Reduced?golfjunky wrote:I see your point Neil but I didn’t buy my Speedmaster because of the moon connection I bought it because I like the look of it. Re: WILD SPECULATION - just for fun.
Don’t get you Richard. The ‘reduced’ is a completely different looking watch

I think I made the point badly, but essentially, it's simply that people buy what they want to buy, and the rest of us don't necessarily have to understand the choices.

Precisely Richard, why should I have to explain my choice. I’ve read thousands of posts here and on other platforms and I’ve never been critical of someone’s choice.downer wrote:I think I made the point badly, but essentially, it's simply that people buy what they want to buy, and the rest of us don't necessarily have to understand the choices.
Several years ago I posted a link to a blog on how and why I started collecting. It included a personal journey and my attachment to my watches. Would I do the same today, the answer would be no. IMHO the forum has changed and its become in part cynical, ready to criticise and is less acceptant especially to change.

...you are not alone in your opinion

You liked it, you bought it, the end. That's justification enough to my mind.

Haha, if I would of said ‘OMG that’s gorgeous what made you buy it?’ You would of been typing faster than a secretary.

Re: WILD SPECULATION - just for fun.
Quite frankly I couldn’t give a toss what people think of me or my watches anymore. Once I did, I would happily post my SOTC, update the forum with my latest purchase, upload multiple photographs, review watches etc.....I’ve learnt that nobody has the monopoly on taste and reason. Hence, all I will say now is thanks for sharing.golfjunky wrote:Haha, if I would of said ‘OMG that’s gorgeous what made you buy it?’ You would of been typing faster than a secretary.
