I feel like this was likely already asked and answered, but I can’t seem to find it in the forum anywhere and it’s been driving me loco. Does anyone know why they chose to call this movement CW–003 when it is their second in-house calibre? I know the plan is to rename the SH21 the CW–001, why skip 002? Did CW do this to avoid confusion with the JJ-02?
Sorry if this is a redundant topic.

I think Mike made some cryptic reference to this in the documentary? He didn’t divulge anything, so much as hint at something coming. Can anyone add to or correct me on thus?

It’s called CW-003 because it is CWs third in-house movement, with the 2nd in a yet to be released model.

Pretty clumsy from CW to be honest.
I suppose I could cut them some slack for that, given its marketing copy. But nonsensical on the basis that no one other than CW and perhaps the Mods knows specifically about CW-002. Therefore looks a bit daft.
Hey maybe watches with CW-002 will be with customers before the Loco watches with CW-003.
I do like to speculate, given I have zero idea what’s coming next. At least in that situation you can’t be accused of spilling the beans.
Also consider there is no stipulation to use every number sequentially. Consider Seiko model numbers, when have you seen one with anything but an odd number? The even numbers do get used but they are very atypical.
Were I to guess, I’d think the JJ modules would be the “new” CW-002 with some sort of alpha-naming of the particular module complications.
SH21 has been renamed CW-001. CW-002 has been in development and is due to be released in a watch later this year or maybe early 2026. CW-003 watch was pushed ahead in the development cycle ahead of the CW-002 watch.
I strongly suspect that since there was concurrent development of the CW-002 and CW-003 watches you'll find hints to the CW-002 movement and watch in the Freewheelin' documentary. Life it too short to go through it frame by frame but maybe someone with more time and better eyesight wants to do that and tell us what's coming next.

During the forum video preview of the Loco I was the one who hazarded a guess in the comments section as to what 001 and 002 would be. This was before the announcement that cw001 was the new name for sh21.
I thought 001 and 002 would be normal (no dial side movement components) auto and manual 3 hander movement versions of 003.
MF said no to my guess and said "it should be easy to guess what 001 is. As for 002, it's already done.". I think he also said something like we would be pleasantly surprised by 002.
If the video link is still up in the Preview thread, you can go through the last bit where he was answering questions.
