Amazing topic that has gone from wondering if there has been an official change in the CW spokesperson to can Chris take his name with him if he was to leave.

I thought I was going to see a debate over who should be.

Hmmmmmmm - that's the nature of these threads where a good question leads to assumption and a whole series of possible outcomes.

I would add that it's obvious that someone can't just get the hump and take his ball home (in this case Chris taking his name off the company) but there are many cases of individuals taking long and protracted legal action to have their name removed/ disassociated from companies that they previously owned/ fronted.

Who really knows about the internal dynamic and internal politics within CW? Do we really know wether Chris has been shunted/ sidelined? It's all just a perception but an interesting one none the less

Personally I think Mike is better at the PR stuff but the problem is I don't like WHAT he is saying. From my short chat with all three I came away thinking Chris was nice and chilled, Peter had real passion (but maybe for the CW of old) and Mike really believes in the brand. I'm happy that Mike has and is successful but I dont think we should read or hear as I have about his Aston Martin. Makes me feel like I'm paying over the odds for a 'faux luxury' 'not proper' batteries required CW. The biggest shock to me came from Chris when he said that the Moonphase wasn't really his kind of watch. Now I understand he can't like everything (or should he?)but I think he should like the newest flagship SH21 piece.

Going off a bit more....if CW is moving to one side where does that leave our wonderful Wera? No more emails returned past office hours, customer service lost because it's not Their baby anymore ? It's all doom and gloom :(

There are plenty of brands possessing names that the originator no longer has major / any involvement with so I wouldn't be worried about the Christopher Ward name disappearing off the watches any time soon, especially after the pain and expense of the current rebrand- it will be perhaps 3-4 years before they rebrand again

It's perfectly reasonable that Chris might slip into the background whilst maintaining a holding and continuing to work in the company, that's his call if that's what he wants to do. What's more important is whoever fronts the brand does so in a positive and professional way. This is where the PR people need to earn their crust - balance the passion with a professional persona befitting the brand status they allegedly seek to achieve. Don't do a Gerald!

It is too bad they choose the Ward name in the first place. A neutral, British sounding company name would have been so much better. My rule is not to but watches (or other products) that are branded with some person's name. Too much like a fashion designer brand. And it was not like Mr. Ward was a well known person anyways. And when he doesn't seem to be very involved with the company these days, the silly brand name becomes a burden.

Oops?

I thought the Moonphase had a "Calibre JJ04 is a modified version of the ETA 2836-2 calibre which can be seen in all its glory through a crystal-exhibition back." or are you referring to a future "newest flagship SH21 piece"?

I love that sort of honesty. It doesn't appear a case of liking it or not liking it, it's just as he said, it's not his type of watch. Same for me. I wish we had that sort of up front honesty instead of the dreadful tosh written in support of the re-brand, which could never hope to ring true.

I don't think Chris has to like every watch the company builds. He has preferences just as we do. I agree that is is very straight forward of him to say when a particular watch is not his type.

I agree. I'm sure he admires the incredible accuracy JJ has installed into the moonphase but he does not have to like moonphase watches.

I believe Chris is on record as saying he doesn't like skeleton watches and the company will not be producing any.

So now I am waiting for the announcement that CW are releasing a skeleton watch.

Hope they prove me wrong. I am not holding my breath.

If it's good enough for the 'fashion' brand tw steel then I expect cw to play catch up.

Interesting. I got an email this morning from someone inside the company apologizing for a particularly long wait when I inquired about something or other and referenced a "shakeup" internally.
