Which two would you choose?

Post by FieryTowse »

On another topic I mentioned that I was after another CW watch for my 40th to add to my Malvern Chrono. Kip, helpful as ever, suggested going for two.

So, on the basis that I've narrowed it down to the C11, C40 and C60 ranges and that I fancy one bracelet and one leather strap which would forum members suggest from the following combinations?

C11-Auto-KKK and C60-GMT-SOKS;
C11-Auto-SKK and C40-SKS;
C60-TRI-SKCS and C40-SKK.

Any other combos gratefully considered.

I think your first combo (Black/Black/Black C11 and Orange C60 on bracelet) would be a terrific birthday present, although personally I'd choose the Black C11 on a brown strap.

You'll end up with two very good watches whatever. 8)
Option 3

Funnily enough, despite me putting this at the bottom of the list, I've been doing a bit of side by side comparison and this is the option jumping out at me. I've been really taken by the orange on the C60 GMT, but the bezel on the Pro looks a bit cleaner with the traditional markings. I also prefer the C40 on a leather strap. Not sure if I can bring myself to exclude the C11 though, and I think three would be considered greedy! Perhaps one final (and cheapest!) option of a C11-Auto-KKK plus a C60-TRI-SKCS.

As a quick aside, I've been looking at comparable watches (and prices!!) from old guard manufacturers that compare to these models. The C11 clearly draws inspiration from Bell & Ross and Panerai models while the C60 can be favourably compared with the Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean amongst others. I can't think of any watches that the C40 bears even a passing resemblance to - that counts in its favour for me as I like things that stand out from the crowd.

I would go for option 3. Trident on the new bracelet and the C40 on the lovely leather strap- diver and chrono, smart/casual wear, all occasions covered.

...so that'd be the C40 and C60, both on steel with spare straps, and a C11? :clap:

Option 3 by the way.

Only thing I'll say is look very carefully at the screws on the C11. I know I've got OCD but others on here are similarly afflicted. Do you not want to align the screws? Honestly, every time I look at that damned watch I want to go at those screws with a screwdriver.

You can hardly go wrong with any of those but for me it would have to be option 3....

I'm quite surprised that option 3 gets so many votes. I'm definitely sold on the C60 - actually a little disappointed that I've been away from the forum for so long and missed out on the 2012 FLE.

As for the C40, I'm finding myself quite drawn to the IPK. I can't say I ever liked the C4 with that finish, but it really seems to suit the C40.

I think aligning the screws would make it look overly false. I'd be more concerned about my propensity for taking things apart and trying to unscrew them.

It's funny how some people will notice something that others pay not attention to. I never notice it until you pointed it out but it seem all to natural. I guess it's because I work with equipment and screws are never aligned to anything. In this case CW could have use a hex drive screw tightened by an Allan Wrench. Or perhaps a Phillips head.

My vote is for my dream combo - C11 and C60. Two beauties with completely different looks. You wouldn't need another watch as these two would give you everything you'll ever need!...
