Welcome back, Jack.

Good to have someone with memories of the 'good old days' around.

Last I heard, xtriple was thriving on another forum.

Thanks guys. You are superb. I do remember xtriple and I feel/hope he comes back here one day. I tempted UB back once, but he melted away again. He was and is a great inmate...I miss him.

I also miss all of the others, Monkey was a favourite too.

I remember Daz was very kind to newbies as is Scooter now. Absolute gentlemen, both.

I am not the most prolific poster (and to be honest, there were less posts back then) and I owe everyone some photos which is a debt I will soon honour, but I am very loyal to the forum and to CWL even though I don't like every release. How could you? The way I see it, it would be pretty boring if we all liked the same watches. And what looks good on one guy won't look as good an another!

I understand the crib about criticism of CWL, but I don't see it that way myself. I have moaned occasionally and inmates will rally to either flag, but I think that either way, you wouldn't be here if you did not have some real love for CWL. It is still, for me, a fantastic endeavour. A British watch brand that defies the status quo and has friends all over the world and especially in America. Brilliant - in so short a time. I am sure that we all share that enthusiasm.

And as for Kip, where would we be without him? I will embarrass him now by stating the obvious - he is the backbone of the forum. Always balanced - and a guiding hand in debate. And a very nice guy/therapist. :)

Flashman.

Great post Jack.

I have a soft spot for Monkey (our tennis pro John) but regrettably he hasn't checked in since his birthday in January 2014. He was the only person to reply to my first post here.

XT went to TZ and became Loquacious but looking at his profile there he hasn't posted since May 2013. I was quite worried about him because he did not enjoy good health so I am pleased to see that he checked in over there during December 2015.

Just returned to Earth and glad to be back on the forum. Getting all my watches in for service now. Lots of catching up to do here considering it's been nine years. Cheers to all!

Welcome back! People still talk about your “oil-filled diver” as a classic and outstanding thread.

Welcome back!

As a relative "newbie" I'm left wondering what made the "good old days" so good, and what would make the current forum the good old gays of the future?

Absolutely. Though there are a few (those whom we know about) who can never return, like Houseman’s Lads in Their Hundreds. It is right that we honour them. There are surely others we don’t know about.

A few have received a little help to leave (not many, and the less said the better).

The majority who have “left” for whatever reason are always welcome to return. Some do, as we have just seen, and we welcome them back. I know where at least a couple of others are. It’s their choice, the door is open and we preserve the fire with whoever is around at the time. The forum hasn’t collapsed and won’t collapse because certain people have left. It’s the nature of social media. No point in wringing hands and bleating about the good old days. To that extent I’m with you.

I joined the forum only about a year before this thread started so probably missed most of those listed as they would have been dropping off long before I came along.

I can see a difference in the forum today compared to how it was when I first came along. However I don’t see it as being anything to do with the quality of the interactions, more the quantity. Threads used to receive more responses and discussion then they tend to now as there was more active members to help the conversations flow.

I suppose that says more about the nature of forums in general than this one in particular. Many I used to frequent on a wide variety of topics have almost become extinct.
