Re: What’s your favorite skeleton/exposed dial CW?
I generally don’t care for skeleton watches. I appreciate the design and engineering but I find the legibility challenging, and that is disappointing even if time is not always the reason I wear a watch. The skeleton idea still appeals.
Of the CW array, both the C7 Apex and the C60 Sapphire get my vote. There is something cooly sophisticated about the smoky sapphire dial semi-revealing the clockworks of the watch. Of the Sapphire dial line the black is the one that suits me best, over the blue or orange. Red would have been interesting; those couple of prototypes were intriguing.
The C7 gets the top pick for me. The hints at the SH21’s inner works combined with the decorated bridges greatly appeal to me. It is easy to see the time with it and then there’s the appeal of the small seconds and power reserve dials.

I agree with you on just about every point! I appreciate skeleton dials but find them challenging, distracting even, to read. Of the sapphires, the smoky black definitely looks the best. For me, the only sapphire dial that ever grab my attention was the C63 Bronze COSC. And the C7 is one of the most striking designs CW ever came up with, if you ask me. I love it!thomcat00 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 7:30 pm I generally don’t care for skeleton watches. Re: What’s your favorite skeleton/exposed dial CW?
I first thought t would be the C60 Concept for me; after all I bought mine in the first hour of day 1 with no previous affection for skeletal dials and my only previous experience being something totally un-memorable from China: I knew that C60 Concept was something new and that I'd have to buy it now, right now on instinct alone which was something I had never done before.
Since then my Concept has been a source of pride for me and a source of curiosity and interest among friends: the look of the watch, my buying experience, even the surprise jigsaw. The watches which have excited friends can be counted on four fingers thus far: the C60 Concept, my Brellum Duobox Gold retirement watch and the Brellum Duobox First Limited Edition One of Eight and the Omega Aqua Terra Skyfall.
And yet I've selected my Twelve XTi: why? Because for me it takes the Concept concept and moves it up a notch. It slips under the shirt cuff, it's so wonderfully light.
Ask me again at Christmas and let's see what kind of impact the Twelve L'oco has had.

Well I've owned three of them, so... has to be the C7 Apex. The first of the real halo watches and still the best looking CW of all time. There were ony 50 of them too.

Re: What’s your favorite skeleton/exposed dial CW?
Skeleton watches in general don't move me one way or the other.
The Concept should be in my wheel house but I just can't get past seeing a diner wall clock every time I look at it.
After spending a day in the showroom the Sapphire Edge really won me over. The dial is a much darker fumé effect in real life than in product shots. I would have liked to see a slight angle to the bezel (it is basically flat) but that is a minor nitpick. So I chose Sapphire.

They’re not for me either, but I appreciate the fascination and attraction for some, as well as the workmanship. I like to see a nice movement from the back, but the dial for me is about unobtruded information. I’ll never have an open-heart, skeleton, sapphire dial, Bel Canto or Loco. So no vote here, Drew.

Re: What’s your favorite skeleton/exposed dial CW?
I’m going to abstain from your vote Drew. I’m also not a fan of skeleton watches so I’d be voting for the one I dislike the least, rather than the one I like the best. That’s not really what this is about.
Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

I've owned several, even many, of the selection, but my Bell Canto Phoenix is the one that is still in my collection.
Simple logic suggests this be my favourite.
This is notwithstanding I have a soft spot for Apex, Apex and Concept, plus have owned multiple iterations of the Sapphire dial range.

Re: What’s your favorite skeleton/exposed dial CW?
I've voted for the Bel Canto as it's my favourite from the list. If the choices had been skeleton only, I'd have gone C60 Concept.
This poll made me think about why I was not voting for the later output. I was initially impressed by the Loco and the 12 X, but when I get past the initial wow reaction, I start to think about the watch holistically. I can't help feeling that the decision to adopt the 12 style case is, for my eyes at least, a bit of a mismatch. The original Twelve and particularly the Twelve Ti were outstanding because the case / bracelet combination were svelte and packed just the right amount of visual interest. The design felt cohesive and balanced, visually and ergonomically.
I love both the 12X skeletonized and loco movements. They are both things of beauty, but I just think the 12 format case is too busy for the movements, the movements don't reflect enough of the character of the Twelve case and the Twelve case is not right when it gets this big. Sometimes, less is more, and for me, a less complex case would showcase these beautiful movements in a more pleasing way.

@Chris GB, I think you make a really good point about the choice of case. I find the case to be the weakest link of the design.
