Re: What's coming today?
I do like the idea of an automatic watch with a power reserve. I don't think I'll ever be in the market for an art metal watch but if CW offered a power reserve automatic without the metal bits I might be interested.

The same answer that I gave someone in the C9 Zagato thread applies.robinbarke wrote:A very good question!nordwulf wrote:I don't get why they introduced this now while it is only available 2 months from now. Why not introduce in October with immediate availability? Perhaps they forst want to wait and see if this is actually going to sell based on pre-orders they will get.
This is clearly a watch for the wealthy car afficionado who already has several watches and possible a vintage Jaguar in their garage. For some people, £2,995 is the same as £295 is for many of us here. And that tiny piece of an engine part that was in one of the models (not necessarily the one that participated in Le Mans) may be enough for an impulse buy from a wealthy collector. The question is... do the wealthy want to be seen with a Ward on their wrist?
Their claimed retail price, of direct cost of the watch X 3 looks very dubious here. More like cost X 10 !
Robin
with one adjustment.....
Watch cost including development and metal cutting + TMB metal costs + strap x3 divided by 19....It can't help but be a higher cost based on what it is and only being 19 55 pieces.

Re: What's coming today?
So, the consensus seems to be that it's a fairly nice watch and there is interest in it without the 'art metal' and at a much more reasonable price. I'd be in the market at $1,000.
It's a pity that the more interesting recent designs are all expensive limited editions of equally limited interest to 'watch fanciers' rather than 'car fanciers'. I wonder if anyone at CW is listening?

With apologies to Scooter,
very nice!
On a more serious note, it looks very smart to me, but at that price I'd rather admire it on someone else's wrist.

Re: What's coming today?
Would pick it up in a heartbeat if I had the doe, same with the Aston, beautiful looking watches, kind of hoping the weekend brings me a bit of luck with the lottery, would pick up both if I did.

How much do these "pieces of a piston" go for? How many grams of original piston piece is in each rotor?
So £1,000 / 55 = £18 of piston metal per watch? Let's say it was an insanely crazy number and they paid £5,000 for some pieces of a piston which is about £91 per watch. You can get the ETA Valgranges A07.161 Movement for US$ 526 retail (http://www.ofrei.com/page_183.html) so say US$ 300 wholesale = £231.
I just don't see what makes this a £2,495.84 (before VAT) watch, besides it being a very limited edition with high production and design costs. And the marketing hype of course because the actual value of piston metal can't be all that much.
So TMB sold a few pieces of a piston to CW. Let's say a crazy number of £1,000? And those pieces are mixed with other metals where they make the rotor discs from. And those discs are laser cut to make the actual watch rotors. At least that is what it looks like from the pictures. Our specialist partners, TMB Art Metal, have sourced pieces of the piston from one of the original racing models, which we’ve placed in the watch

The CW website:
https://www.christopherward.co.uk/our-storyOur pricing model has been the same since day one. We design in-house, use the best possible components, calculate the cost of the watch and multiply it by three to get the selling price.

Re: What's coming today?
Nice looking watch. I just wish they would just make a similar watch to this out of normal materials and price it in the 500-700 pound range for us normal everyday blokes. haha
