What is your favourite CW series?

Post by Thegreyman »

Currently I own three C60 Trident mk3, one C63 and a C65 Dartmouth (not including my son's C63 and wife's W11) all as per photos below:

Looking back I have also owned, in addition to the above, one C1, six C11's, one C3, one C5, two C6, two C60 mk1's, a C60 Kingfisher, five C60 mk 2's and another C60 mk3, one C600, two C63's, three C65's, one C7 and one C70.

It is a quite substantial and amazing back catalogue that CW have, and there are many others that I haven't owned. I think my favourite CW has to be the ubiquitous Trident, given how many I have had. The Trident is such a versatile watch that can be dressed up with a bracelet or worn all summer with a rubber strap, taken on holiday, go swimming with etc etc. I'd also plump for the mk3 with the svelte light catcher case design and more wearable size options from 38/40/42mm.

My question is what is your favourite range of CW?

I've got to say it's somewhere in the C600 Tritech Elite, C60 Mk1, C6 Kingfishers. The C6 range offers more variations but probably I'd be pressed to put the C600 as top of my tree: there are only three of them.
C60 MKI, MKII, MKIII: "some",
C6 & C60 Kingfishers,
C600 Tritechs,
C63 "some",
C65 "some",
C4, C40, C8, C9, C3, C5, C20 & 23FLE
Some other brands

Given that I own 3 C65s, that must be my favourite series. I should think. There's other models in the series I could have owned as well. :D

Difficult to choose one favourite.
Different favourites for different moods/settings.

C9/C65/C8 if I had to choose three🤣😔

My favourite series and why?

C60 - I have both MK1 and MK2 and have tried on the Current MK3. Yes I like them, but I have other dive watches that I prefer.

C63 - I have 36mm and 39mm versions covering both simple three hander and GMT. Yes I like them, but have other watches of the style that I much prefer.

C65 - I have a couple and like them, but less than other watches in a similar category, that I prefer.

C”various” - I have a few from the back catalogue, but as I hardly wear them they are ruled out of favourite status.

C1 Bel Canto - almost a favourite.

The winner for me is the C12 series. Different to watches I have from other brands and worn far more than any of the above. An easy favourite from my perspective.

I definitely predicted you would mention the C6 Kingfisher, Pete. I recollect you have/had a good few of them and were seeking out the cream dial version, although maybe that's a one of one?

I've had a few of them myself, probably should have kept the yellow LE Auto that I sold on the forum some years back :(

I couldn’t give a fig for most of the colours, Patrick. I find most of them off-putting. I only have the one (possibly a deliberate choice connected with my collecting habits), but I have found it to be the most all-round useful and adaptable CW (possibly watch) I’ve ever had. Not even the C9 SS or the Twelve Ti top it.

I think CW nailed everything with the C60 Trident Pro 300 series. One of the very few watches I've ever looked at where I would change nothing about it. Size, materials, legibility, dimension, and the chronometer movement (in mine anyway) are all perfect.

I’ve had a few CW’s, although nowhere near the number of some others here!

A favourite model? To my mind the C63 marked a change in CW’s design language and maybe a wider acceptance of CW amongst the watch cognoscenti? I’ve owned two and still have a GMT which is my longest owned CW. This must say something as I’m generally a CW flipper.

However, the C60 is probably my definitive CW. I’ve had five and currently own one, a C60 300 which I think is by far the best design to date; a combination of great dial, bezel and case design with reduced thickness making for a great looking and very wearable watch.

That reminds me of another favourite, it was just the bronze patination that put me off and led me to sell, the raw look was great.
