Re: What future special/limited editions would you like to see?
I like the idea of a special/limited edition watch for the 100th anniversary of the First World War. 2014 will be a year of many events in many countries to mark the start of this awful conflict. I would suggest something that pays our respects to the "Unknown Soldier" which symbolizes the huge loss of human life and the suffering of countless others. As long as its tasteful and respectful this could be a winner...
Other than that I would like to see a few (and all special/limited editions should be kept fairly low in number in my opinion) that celebrate great historical figures that have contributed to things like civil engineering or other great projects. Isambard Kingdom Brunel has already been mentioned and would make a great choice as would Frank Whittle. Something along these lines anyway.

no, I don't think many people would say WW II was anything other than a justified war. WW I was a totally dumb war, but the herosim of the soldiers involved in the face of a horrific conflict is also beyond question and a watch celebrating this would be entirely suitable. Also the suggestions for other notable Brits being celebrated by watches are excellent, how about a digital watch to recognise A Turing? ( ok, maybe a step too far!? )NMS75 wrote:Oh dear, does this mean CW will have to get rid of the C5 Battle of Britain watch from his line-up? Frankly I've never been attracted by the LE label the Forum LE being the only exception. I cannot see the point. If its a really great watch why limited sales unless you think you can sell it at a substantial mark up or you think it is a so so watch and you think you might only sell a few. Associating watches with significant events or personality is fine as long as you don't plaster them the with logos etc.In the main CWL does this the right way. The Harrison range doesn't have a picture of the Harrison H1 chronometer on it, for example. The C70 get away with it but the C5 B of B and the RAF couple were useless, IMHO. But a series in Football team colours, no thanks leave that to Franklin Mint that that ilk. Just a personal view you understand!

These are watches and not stamps.
Anyway I think a popular one would be the C6 white done as a C60 auto. It never did sell well until real pictures started appearing by which time it had been discontinued.
There is something nice about owning a watch that you know only 100 or 200 of them have been made.

Yes I agree and I think that's something I like about my C70 GE - only 500 worldwide so not likely to bump into someone walking down my street wearing the same watch. I know it depends on how viable a low run of a particular watch design is in terms of cost but if CW made a 'small' number of special editions in small runs they certainly would end up rather sought after - providing the design and theme were well done of course!ianblyth wrote:There is something nice about owning a watch that you know only 100 or 200 of them have been made.

Thats not a bad idea Mark and could be the first to use a new (vintage?) Yes I like the idea of a vintage inspired case. Interestingly it was the First World War that made wristwatches more popular. Although they existed before 1914 the pocket watch was still the main type of watch carried by gentlemen. However, you try climbing out of a trench with a revolver in one had, your whistle in the other while looking at your pocket watch for the right second to go-over-the-top! As a result the wristwatch began to over take the pocket watch.Dancematt wrote:Thats not a bad idea Mark and could be the first to use a new (vintage?) Re: What future special/limited editions would you like to see?
For me a strong simple design.
Automatic with an exhibition back and decorated movement. Something like the bell and Ross above. minimum Colours but lots of texture and detail in the construction and face. 25 year luminous markers. Not sue of strap or bracelet.
Titanium with alligator strap maybe would be nice.

I would love a slightly larger Malvern automatic...41mm goldtone case with champagne dial that comes with a alligator strap.... a real classic dress or business watch with a classic look.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the Vespa and I like Vespas.
I would like to see a Limited Edition featuring a green Vespa (because I like green) on the dial. There would naturally be only one of these made and on the hour and half hour it would play "Oh Sole Mio". This beautiful watch would then be presented to me because I like Vespas more than anyone else on this Forum and because I like the C80 Sector which is now very special because there are none left.
