Wearing a CW in london
Re: Wearing a CW in london
Yes I occasionally do. Usually if I know that a late night and alcohol will be involved and I think it would be foolhardy to wear a Rolex.

Re: Wearing a CW in london
Just thinking from a safety point of view ie being mugged. As some of the CW could look like a more popular brand. I am hoping to visit in next few weeks sighting an it’s a toss up between c65 dune and Casio.

I’m planning on it this summer while I’m there.

Re: Wearing a CW in london
I wore my Bremont there last summer during the heat wave, so short sleeves all week and didn’t have an issue. I wasn’t hanging out late night while drunk in undesirable bars though.
Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

Yeah just avoid dodgy places late at night basically! Probably less noticeable than an iPhone/AirPods etc

Re: Wearing a CW in london
I have worn Omega, CW, Tag, Tudor, Oris etc etc for years in London. Walking, on trains, buses, the Tube. Whilst shopping, working, leisure, socialising etc. Never a problem.
Of course bad stuff can happen anywhere but London is generally pretty safe.
I wouldn't hang around in short sleeves wearing a Rolex, Patek or other uber brand in most UK large towns or cities.
I think CW would be amongst the safest of the quality auto watch brands unless someone mistook it for a Sub or similar which is unlikely.
There are some places (like most cities) that I would not wander around whatever watch I was wearing or at least not comfortably. These would not be the areas you would typically be on a visit or short break.

Unlike you Iain

Last time I was in London, two summers ago, was wearing a BB58, didn’t even think about it, I would imagine 80% of the population have never heard of CW. Not trying to dismiss the problem with watch crime but is it a bit over hyped by the likes of Paul Thorpe

Re: Wearing a CW in london
Unless you plan to go into the deepest back streets in the worst areas, I'd say you can wear whatever you like and not give it a second thought.

Thanks for your feedback I’ll wear it then. I rarely visit London and I certainly don’t have any Rolex etc just my c65 dune.
Re: Wearing a CW in london
I’d happily wear my CW, probably just as happy to wear my Omega or Tudor too.
Thankfully, the models I own are not the more “high profile” ones and therefore significantly lower risk than other models. Also, all my watches are individually listed on my home insurance with specific additions to cover theft while wearing.
And on a slight diversion, I was listening to an episode of About Effing Time on YouTube earlier this afternoon and they featured this very topic. Whilst discussing this, they displayed an image of a van/truck that drives around London with a poster on its sides advising locals not to wear valuable watches in the City. What the presenters of the show then pointed out was the “small print” at the bottom of the poster that showed a website who would be willing to buy said valuable watches off their nervous wearers…
I don’t mean to sound flippant, but “scaremongering” and “mountains-out-of-molehills” are a couple of phrases that spring to mind.
Keep well, and don’t get mugged,
C
