I went to buy two Breitlings, one for me and one for the better half, and in most London stores was treated really badly.
We ended up going on holiday to Spain and buying both from a great Jewellers who could not have been more helpful, and they even gave me a discount. :)
Just remember that there are a lot of sellers out there, so don't put up with any rubbish!
I am truly amazed, its not in the interest of 'most London stores' to treat potential customers 'really badly'. Why on earth would they want to do that. As a fine art dealer I also found that some customers appeared awkward and I hope you are not referring to people who are trying to make a living as 'rubbish'.

I'm delighted that you were able to buy the Brietlings, I believe the expectation on the forum is to follow this up with a few photographs.

Is Watches of Switzerland connected with Goldsmiths? Reason is I can only recall Goldsmiths in Queen Victoria Street in Reading.

But funnily enough I have a sign language relationship with one member of staff in Goldsmiths... I keep looking at used Rolexes in their window, and the same member of staff keeps beckoning me in!

I have a different kind of relationship with the lovely young ladies in Robert Gatward in Reading, but that very different and it's all in my mind :D
Watches of Switzerland and Goldsmiths are part of the same company, Aurum Holdings Ltd. Goldsmiths in Victoria Street has been refurbished as a WoS Pre-Owned Store. It's a joy to visit Andrew and his team, they are so welcoming and know their stuff. If you are referring to Goldsmiths in the Oracle, the guy beyond the window display is Paul. He loves his watches, enjoys a chat and is knowledgable too.

My advice is, engage the dealers in conversation and have some fun window shopping.

I thought it fair to add to my previous post

I went to a few more watch sellers in London last week

I went into Austin Kaye (charring Cross) a couple of times and the gentleman who dealt with me was very friendly and helpful. By far the nicest chap so far.

hi Richard
By rubbish I mean attitude or bad service, I don't think we should have to put up that from anyone. No offence intended to people trying to make a living. But there really is no excuse for bad customer service.

:) Will try and do a few pictures and get them up on here. Need to read up on how to do it first though

I replied I test drove my car before I bought it and it is more expensive than the 7K watch I was looking at. I then took out the 8K I had in my pocket and counted it out in front of him and told him to get the manager. The manager came over and ask what was wrong I should him the money and said ask your salesman and walked out. I went back the following week and showed they my new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M Co-axial GMT 43.5 mm. and ask the salesperson how much he could have made.
It sounds strange that after the salesman took the time to show you 5 watches you took an attitude towards him for asking if your just test driving, in case you don't understand that was a trial close the guy is not there to stand talking all day he has to sell.
As for counting out your money what an attitude you have sir, and then going back a week later to show them, what did you hope to achieve with that little tantrum, get him sacked to satisfy your little ego that's the mans lively hood your dealing with all over a silly little watch get a grip of your attitude learn to understand its only the watch you were buying not the sales person and try some respect as well

I will both agree and disagree with you. I personally would be offended if a salesperson asked me whether or not I was just test driving, especially depending on the tone of voice it was said in. And if i was personally treated as such, I would take my business elsewhere if possible. The salesperson's job is to accommodate you, and unless you are being a complete pain, has no right to ask such a thing.

As for returning later to show them what they missed out on, well I can completely understand how after feeling slighted some one would want to get back at them. I would have been tempted to do such a thing myself but would have restrained myself as nothing good could come out of it

The car salesman quip is a cliche. As a car enthusiast as well as a watch enthusiast I can honestly say that few people seem to try harder than (decent) car salesman. I bought my wife a Lexus, took delivery on 1st Sept and the service was exemplary. Cars brilliant too. I'm not a salesman before anyone suggests otherwise! I think if you are 'chippy' this gets conveyed and lo and behold the service appears to meet your low expectations.

Do you enjoy visiting car showrooms and teasing people who are just trying to make a living?
